Gears of War Franchise Reaches New Sales Milestone

As the 4th title in the Gears series approaches, we are reminded of just how much gamers love the Chainsaw Bayonet.

Gears of War fans won't get any love this holiday season - they'll just have to wait for the release of Gears of War: Judgement in March 2013 - but the series is still making headlines. Microsoft has revealed [http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/07/gears-of-war-franchise-surpasses-19-million-sales/] that the franchise just recently passed the 19 million sales mark. A pretty impressive figure, especially considering there are just three Gears of War titles available, and on just one console (technically, the first Gears title also appeared on PC, but you get the idea).

The first Gears of War title launched way back in 2006 and quickly became a hit. The sequel arrived two years later, and the third game was released just last year. The next title, Judgement, acts as a prequel of the first game and is the only title in the series not to feature Marcus Fenix as the main protagonist.

Of course, while Gears is certainly a hit, its sales numbers pale in comparison to the older and more storied Halo franchise. According to recently updated sales info, Halo had moved over 46 million units even before the release of Halo 4. That's a lot of Master Chiefs.

I doubt it. PC Gamers would probably just scoff and consider themselves to "good" for Console games.

At least a good chunk of them.

It actually probably wouldn't. EPIC and Cliffy actually got pretty miffed at PC gamers - they spent a lot of time to make the PC version of Gears 1 as good as they could, including some single player content (including a Brumak fight!) and multiplayer content that the Xbox 360 version never got and optimizing it for the PC and on their weekly update some time before Gears 2 launched they said they wouldn't do it again because the game sold like ass on PC and they didn't even recoup the costs of doing it.

that was back when digital distribution wasn't that big yet, practically unused for the most part, and they added content to it (which i'm not arguing, just saying that adds costs to it) and they released it on GFWL, any pc gamer worth their salt refuses to use that abomination.

I was referring to an "as is" game that is released through the likes of steam/GoG/origin/amazon rather than the old conventional methods, and yeah it wouldn't skyrocket, i'm not sure why i used that word at the time, i couldn't see them not making a profit off of it.

Gears of War can lick my Emperor-loving balls.

Chainswords are WAY better than a stupid bayonet will ever be.
