Well Mari, you've convinced one person of your theory.

I hear her daughter may be on board with the idea now too. ;p

Seriously though. Interesting lore this game has. I can see why people like it.

I've also heard many people say it's like Harvest Moon, but with less annoying stuff to deal with. Haven't ever played Harvest Moon, so I don't have any idea about that.

Anyway, thanks for the info! =w= b [sub](<-Thumbs up face)[/sub]

It's like harvest moon without the grindy bits and you can be gay when you get married. Which is great.

It's missing a few of the improvements of Harvest Moon games (in the first real 3DS iteration of the game that wasn't a DS port, it let you pick up and move buildings around), but overall a solid addition to the genre.

Plus, it can be modded, and I'm looking forward to some of the more inventive creations. In particular, I haven't gotten to animals yet, but I would like some way to tell them apart, because that was always my problem in other games.

Ah, cool. It's always nice when a games can remove some of the grindy bits, and add in gay marriage while they're at it. ;3

Also, does it always say "You're mind is filled with thoughts of Penis" when you get a stardrop, or is that some kind of thing I wouldn't get without playing the game? xD

Well, if ya want, there's apparetnly a mod that turns all the animals into Pokemon.

May help ya. Unless you have a similar issue with telling Pokemon apart.

The penis bit is because when you make your character the menu asks what your favorite thing is. So I put "penis".

Well, adding in gay marriage isn't so much an "addition" as it is "not adding a restriction". The game simply doesn't care what gender you are.
Haha, the "You're mind is filled with thoughts of Penis" is from the character creation. When you get a stardrop it always says "You're mind is filled with thoughts of ..." and adds whatever you put as your "favourite thing" during character creation.

Which, if I'm not mistaken, is an homage to Earthbound, which also asked you what some of your favorite things were during the character naming and then used those answers at various points during the game.

having played hours of Stardew and nearly all of the harvest moon games, i can say yes, its a lot like 'harvest moon with all the grindy bits taken out' lol

depending on how you play and like to play, you can get better at certain aspects of the game.
you level up by doing instead of by buying/upgrading here so its not so time consuming.
there are 10 levels of skills.
mining
combat
foraging
farming
fishing
each one has a midpoint were you choose to take a branching path, like choosing to specialise in farmng crops, or animals for example. and another branching point at lvl 10 in a skill, that can further develop your skills.
(i guess this may mean one day CA might want to add another 5 or so levels if he ever makes an expansion? maybe)

you can learn to transmute copper bars into iron bars early-ish in the game so that if you dont want to do too much mining, you can at least upgrade your tools from basic to copper (chops down the treestumps) and then to steel (chops down the fallen logs and lets you clear the big rocks from your farm) so you dont have to grind the mine if you dont want to.

also, grampa wont be *quite* so grumpy apparently when he visits you now, to give you apiece of his ghostly mind XD and you can call him back later at any time to give you another talk.
and yes, there are mods. lots of mods, mods for changed portaits (anime, cute, revert back to pre-releas versions, even a furry set) and replacements for animals and pets. there is a fishing set that ether makes it easier (for folks like me lol) or a harder fishing too for those who just hate how easy it becomes to them once they h ave the best rod and bait.

yes..im addicted....
Hi, im Silverbane7 and im a Stardew Addict...over 60 hours since release all together....
:p

Fair point. I suppose it's more of letting gay marriage exist in game, rather than putting it into the game.

Huh. Neat. Thought it was something like that.

FWIW, I was watching one of Yathzee's recent LP's and he mentioned at the beginning playing 50 hours of Stardew Valley over the weekend, so I'm guessing we'll be seeing his review of it either this week or next.

The game is nice and all, but it has quite a few flaws that discourage me from playing.
Game is kinda unresponsive and sometimes it takes clicking around objects to interact despite the mouse icon changing. The starting map is simply too huge and there are too many people forcing you to waste too much time early learning about all the people. It took me 3 or 4 in game days to actually meet everyone and finish the introduction quest. I just couldn't find Sam. It should have taken the Harvest Moon route. A lot smaller at the start, but with time it adds new people and opens up new places.
Also aside from Sam and the guy lifting weights, no cute or hot guys. A big minus because of that.

I'm not that far into the game to know about aliens.

Stardew valley is about time management and learning the map. Planning your day ahead of time so as to make the most of it. When you first start off, you will make mistakes. That's part of the charm and the difficulty curve.

Except it fails at that.
Harvest Moon and Rune Factory are both about time management and learning the map, planing out your days, hell even months ahead if you want the best results. Yet they don't throw you into a huge map with absolutely nothing to help you navigate it.
