Er, I think it's a sub-catagory really. Not all geeks are otakus but all otakus are geeks (comes with calling yourself otaku, really)Suiseiseki IRL said:Do otakus count as geeks or are we a seperate category?

... Jeez. We might have to start a Fan Group for her.
Or Max.
Oh God, best idea ever.
You know i already suggest to neonbob that he and maxi should bear a child and he would be our messiah.
I love geeks but they don't have to "look" like a geek. just have to be geeky.....my bf for instance sort of looks like one just cause he has glasses but looks more like the "popular kid" from high school until he starts talking. ah geeky love at its finest....he and i both really.....Aviator Ombre said:I think geeks are incredibly attracting. I usually catch myself gawking away at them in grocery stores or food joints. Why?! What mechanisim do they use to make the knees so weak??
Any other geek-lovers of the community of Escapist?

Ah yes, very good show.RedMenace said:It will be faster to show than to explain:Nazulu said:By 'beautiful girls' do you mean the bleached blondes with an even tan who show of their body parts with small or revealing clothes?RedMenace said:Its the whole "Air of Intelligence" thing. Some people are attracted by looks and muscles, others by personality and brainpower. It also may be the glasses. I myself find the smart girls more attractive than the "beautiful" girls.
Give me an average looking smart girl with glasses instead of luscious boobalicious blond!
All the smart girls I know are beautiful, they just don't do what most of these bimbo's do.

Thank you for proving my point. You used a physical description to tell me what kind of girl you're attracted to. Had you said you were attracted to girls who understand C++ I'd've been sunk.Longshot said:Yeah, but no. You're wrong. Physical looks are certainly very important, as are smells and sounds. It's all genetics. But there's also an entire social role, that can be even more important. For instance, women usually have crushes on strong physiques, but settle with strong minds. Why? Because in a social arena, the strong mind is the Alpha Male. Women choose partners based on social reasons, not physical appearance. Not to say that physique is not very important. But social role comes first.Lord Monocle Von Banworthy said:Everybody:
No, you don't.
You find physically attractive people attractive. You find clear skin of whatever color you prefer attractive. You find symmetry attractive. Whether you like DDs or AAs they have to be the same size. Yes, they do. You find a certain body type most attractive, and other body types less attractive. I have yet to find a work of fiction depicting a "sexy geek" that doesn't depict a sexy person independent of geek status.
Look at the girl somebody posted on page 1: She's stunning. What's her profession? Model. Is she smart? Do you know whether she is or not because she's wearing glasses in that picture? Of course not. But you do know whether or not you find her attractive. See what I mean?
Hollywood has decided that it can put a stunning young woman who is a 9 or 10 in unflattering clothing, glasses, and a messy up-do, and give her geek appeal, but they always give her a makeover by the end of the second act.
Your real "geek" stereotypical gamer girl or guy who stays up all night gaming and eating crap food, never gets out in the sun or to the gym, speaks in weird jargon particular to her gaming/anime/academic obsession doesn't have any plans on Saturday night except ones pertaining to said obsession, I guarantee.
I find it attractive when a woman has obviously already won the genetic lottery and topped it off with a robust interest in her own body and society. I have my doubts about people who claim otherwise.
Add to that then, that we all have our kinks and preferences. I am much more endeared and turned on by "averag" lookin women, than I am by super models. Don't tell me I'm wrong. I just so happens to know what images and ideals Ierectreact to.
Lord Monocle Von Banworthy said:Oh, then we are in agreement. I read it as you meant that the supposed "physical ideals" are what we'd all go for.Longshot said:Thank you for proving my point. I'm not going to tell you you're wrong because we're not in dispute. I didn't exactly throw my hat over the wall in asserting a particular shape as most attractive up there did I? I wasn't saying that everybody is attracted to the same things, just that initial attractiveness is usually on the physical plane. With someone you don't know in person but only see on the internet or in other entertainment media that attraction exists entirely on the physical plane.
I think it was comedian Pablo Francisco who once said, "Nobody ever says, 'Ooh, there's an ugly person! Let's meet her!'" In other words you're not even going to get close enough to the girl you don't find physically attractive to bother finding out what's on the inside. I know our culture condemns that, but it's still true.
Look at the straw man people keep throwing up on this thread even. "I'm not attracted to the orange, plastic-breasted, peroxide blonde..." Yeah? Good. Nobody is. Those aren't attractive women to the average man at all. They're a caricature of attractiveness.
I still stand by my basic guidelines: We're all attracted to health and symmetry. We're programmed for it because those things indicate good genes and the ability to bear healthy children to term. After we've narrowed the field according to whatever our personal standards for those criteria are we can start looking at shared interests and whatnot.
Oh, and everybody be prepared to see me live up to my name. Apparently I was reported to a mod or however this sort of thing works for not agreeing with the OP. Do you feel "flamed," Longshot?
And why would I feel flamed? I disagree with you, doesn't mean you're necesarrily wrong. Wasn't me that reported you.
Why would you steam piss? That sounds...icky.Flying-Emu said:You better be. She's my friend, and I won't hesitate to turn you into a steaming pile of organs and piss if you upset her.zen5887 said:Aha.. Don't worry.. I'll be cool.Flying-Emu said:... What have I done?
