Oh boy here we go -

I really don’t care either way because I never cared for Star Wars even as a kid.
Just to clarify, Sam Maggs IS NOT the lead writer. Courtney Woods is the current lead writer. Courtney has previously worked at Bioware for 8 years, beign the writer for
SWTOR Knights of the Fallen Empire and DA Inquisition: The Descent DLC. Now, she has set her twitter to be visible to be limited, but I think I haven't seen any SJW stuff from her.

As for Sam Maggs, she has herself tweeted KOTOR wasn't one of her favorite games in the past, tho has recently had a sudden change of heart (probably trying to save her image). Since Maggs isn't the lead writer, I am sure she won't have the ultimate decision making in how to do story for KOTOR Reamke

By the way, Tony Todd a.k.a. the coolest fucking voice next to maybe Tony Jay, is doing the voice of Venom in Spider-Man 2. Just when you think Hardy's Venom voice couldn't sound any worse...

Which means "games as a service" which basically will fuck with every AAA-company that loves to stuff microtransactions into their crap.

Though to be honest, I don't really know if this will have any effect on what happens with games worldwide. I imagine it hurts the mobile market more than anything, but even then the ban appears to only be for "new" games so I don't really understand the point if people can remain addicted to games they are already playing.

Apparently this is a HUGE part of the Chinese games market. Like a grand majority of their games market are F2P mobile or online games. If someone has a better take on the Chinese games market please correct me. This is totally not something I have a huge knowledge base on.

How do I feel about it? IDK. I don't care for such games but I also don't like the CCP in the least so......Boooo.

Poetic Justice. Their reasoning for banning games is bullshit, but there's so much irony now. Chinese gamers are gonna wanna get used to going to torrent sites now.

As someone who mainlines GaaS like cocaine addict and have actual knowledge. The problem with mobile gaming was that it was cheap to produce and generated good income even if the average lifespan was year or two before they shut down the service and offer refunds for premium currency. It's like the Korean MMO scene where you can just print money using borderline porn costumes and Gacha simply exemplified the problematic issues with mobile.

The gaming ban also cynically made premium Gacha spending more normalized as because you only have so much screentime in a strict household of an hour or so (more than enough to do your dailies) that you spend money on Premium currency to speed up the event currency gain rate before you are kicked from the server. This is probably why despite barely playing SIF. A 15 min session can put me in a reasonably high tier to get most of the meaningful event rewards because there has been reduced engagement from Chinese Gacha gamers.

The worst case scenario is this means layoffs for Netease and Tencent mobile gaming divisions are there are less services to provide down the line but titles like IDV and Super Mecha Champions will still be printing dosh

Capcom is proud of their legacy. You forget that DMC2!Dante is on there too. Besides, most fans have gotten over DmC!Dante. You either like the character or don't, but most of us learned to live and let live. I barely tolerate the douche nozzle now, compared to the seething hatred I had in the early 2010s.
Okay, I was not expecting the like from @Gyrobot, but I don't mind. Was it the live and let live comment, DMC2 Dante, or all of the above.

I see a lot DmC Dante in Nero in DMC5 from his vulgar personality to going from the cheesy shounen mullet to a more rugged look, to taking nods from the game. Good devs learn from their weaker titles and seeing what can be used for their next one.

Here's the thing, DmC Dante was just a combination of Nero and classic Dante, but with nothing to really standout. Nero was already vulgar in DMC4. His buster attacks on certain enemies and bosses was more than enough proof. He dropped plenty of damns, hells, shits, and a couple of fucks (albeit heavily filtered when in his Devil Trigger). His new look may have been more DmC inspired in 5, but he still has the foul mouth that was already there. DmC Dante's was just more cringe worthy and trying too hard to come off as edgy.

Let's be honest, Devil May Cry has always been edgy in a "this ain't your kids shounen anime/manga" edgy

No, not really. The series has serious and dark moments, but always knew when to make fun of itself (other than 2 and DmC).

The Devil May Cry series were basically the video game versions of Deadpool (when he actually developed his own personality and was not a blatant clone of Slade Wilson). 2 is the most serious by the only factor that it was so boring and almost nothing happens. Nor does Dante have any personality until that is his until the last few mission. Other than that, the first game is the most serious, because of its Resident Evil influences, yet it still knew when to have fun and make fun of itself when appropriate.

Some people have suggested blocking Chinese IP to stop the review bombing. But I have my doubts these reviews come from China, they likely come from Chinese nationals living in the Western hemisphere, who from my experience, are often even more nationalistic than people in China. There is very little Steam can do about this, but it's starting to happen with any game that doesn't follow the Chinese party line.

Its really funny. Game companies slavishly bend over backwards to appease China and then Xi Jinping still slaps them down hard.

I may not be a Life Is Strange fan, but all those Chinese players can screw off. I don't care if they're from the mainland, or nationalistic ones that live in the Western hemisphere. If you don't like it, just don't play it and leave others alone. All the shows is how pathetic and racist they are and they lack the empathy or courage to be good people. The game itself is doing fine, so it means nothing. It's nothing more than children throwing up temper tantrum.

That's what you get for sucking up to a government of fascist and racist assholes, and constantly trying to suck their genitals to please their overlords for that next hit of cash. I know a lot of AAA companies are about have a well deserved panic attack.

I'm not a fan of review bombing, but I don't believe there's any justifcation for blocking IPs over it.

I mean, even discounting the freedom of speech argument, imagine how publishers/devs could use that to their advantage? Getting bad reviews? Block 'em.
