Huh. I didn't know there was gonna be another vesion of RE live-action movie w/ the legend himself.

Really wish we've gotten this version instead of Paul Anderson version. Granted he did capture some of the more goofier aspects of the games, but Romero probably would've done the horror part better
I remember reading Romero's leaked RE script as an early teen. The worse change he ever did was making Chris Redfield part Native American. I didn't have a problem with it, but that is so much better than all of those Paul WS Anderson piece of shit fan fic films.

A movie adaptation of Helldivers II and Horizon Zero Dawn and (as @BrawlMan mentioned) an anime based on The Ghost of Tsushima is in the works.

I wonder if the fact that the TV series based on The Last Of Us was a big hit, both viewing-wise and critic-wise, has made them bold.

An anime based on a western IP... Has that ever resulted in anything noteworthy?
  • Highlander: The search for vengeance
  • Powerpuff Girls Z
  • The 4 Marvel anime line up from 2011.
  • Star Wars Visions
  • The Animatrix
  • Cyberpunk Edgerunners
  • Lord of the Rings

I'll give a nod to The Animatrix and maybe Cyberpunk Edgerunners, but that's really it.

I saw about half of Animatrix and lost interest.

(Oh, and I liked the Anderson RE films. Or rather they start out good enough, and I watch the last ones out of inertia. Not played the games, though)

Howl's Moving Castle!
There's also the World Masterpiece Theater where you have Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, and Peter Pan. Those are all pretty great. But I'm mostly refering to geek properties. I guess that's why I labeled it as IP, since it mostly conjurs up images games, movies, and comics, and less so literary classics.

Bullshit, and I give credit where credit is due. Most of these projects turned out pretty good in quality or made a profit.

Well, you can't really claim bullshit to something I personally would give a nod to. But Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was actually quite good.

But I'll bet my dog that this Ghost of Tsushima anime won't turn out any better than any of the other videogame based anime we've seen. Maybe I should've phrased it like that from the beginning. And before you post Street Fighter 2 The Movie, yeah, I know it's great (some of it is at least), but that's really an outlier. Even follow-up Street Fighter anime couldn't attain that quality.

I have no problem acknowledging that.

It'll more than likely turn out good, considering all the great adaptions we've been getting for a while now. Yes, we get some stinkers every once in a while, but that's getting rarer, because the people doing these know they can't afford to fuck up. Regardless if it's the Japanese doing a Western IP, or the West doing a Japanese IP. It's called wait and see, but don't count something out yet before it evens started.

So what? I never cared for the Alpha movies to begin with, and that was back then when anime movies and movie adaption varied it quality during the 90s and early 2000s. You're talking about different eras. It's not like the old days anymore.

Don't forget the Batman Ninja movie and its upcoming sequel.
I wanted to give people some ammo.

That's fucked up.

I'm not that big a fan of how anime looks nowadays, but I can still see the difference in quality between something like Dungeon Meshi and War of the Rohirrim. And it's the flat digital sleekness of the latter that tends to be all over anime productions based on Western pop culture properties. Not that Western animated projects fare any better.

In the current climate of animation I really don't see this Tsushima anime having much a chance to turn out any better than mediocre.

I don't care. There anime that interests me, and anime that doesn't, regardless of look. I want my anime to look good obviously, but you're cynically assuming too much. Also, there are more anime with distinct art style making a return again, and by my guess: Tshushima is more than likely not going to like some generic anime from the late 2010s or early 2020s. Once again, wait until the actual trailer and anime comes out.

In the current climate of animation I really don't see this Tsushima anime having much a chance to turn out any better than mediocre.
Once again, you're assuming and already expecting the worst. When nothing has been shown or who is doing what. You can act all snobby and depressed about it all you want. I am interested and willing to give this a chance. Deal with it.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has crossed a rare box office milestone for a video game adaptation. The movie is the third installment in the live-action franchise bringing the world of SEGA's games to the big screen and follows the arrival of the powerful hedgehog Shadow (Keanu Reeves), forcing Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and his friends to team up with their enemy Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 release kicked off the weekend before Christmas in 2024, taking No. 1 on the domestic chart for two consecutive weekends.

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is projected to earn a three-day total of $8.67 million at the domestic box office by the end of its fourth weekend in theaters. This will bring its cumulative domestic total to $202.1 million, making it only the second video game movie ever to cross the $200 million domestic milestone. The previous title to do so was 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which passed that milestone after just five days in theaters and went on to gross $1.36 billion worldwide.

Although Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is still trailing far behind the No. 1 highest-grossing domestic video game movie, this accomplishment is still dazzling. Not only have just two movies ever passed the $200 million milestone in North America, only 10 have ever passed the $100 million milestone, including Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, Five Nights at Freddy's, Uncharted, and the two previous Sonic movies. Below, see a breakdown of the current chart of the 10 highest-performing video games movies at the domestic box office:
Cool.
