Germany Rates Guitar Hero: Van Halen

A German ratings board has posted a listing for Guitar Hero: Van Halen, seemingly confirming the long rumored existence of the title.

Take a deep breath. No, not for the news that the existence of Guitar Hero: Van Halen has been basically confirmed, but for the name of the party that confirmed it. Thanks to the German Voluntary Monitoring Organization of Entertainment Software, the rumors about Guitar Hero: Van Halen have gained some genuine credence.

The listing, which went up this weekend but was later removed, was spotted and screencapped by the ratings board watchdogs over at 1UP [http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3173813]. Specifically, the listing doesn't refer to Guitar Hero: Van Halen, but rather is filed under "Guitar Hero headlining Van Halen." Your guess is as good as mine on that one. Listings were posted for a Xbox 360 and PS3 version, with the genre listed as "Arcade." As for a Wii entry, it was nowhere to be found.

The disappearance of the listing would suggest that someone wants to keep this information under wraps, which lends it some air of legitimacy. So, Guitar Hero: Van Halen is probably coming. The question, then: do you want it? I like Van Halen some, but even for stupid music to rock out to "ironically," I just don't see it really working that well. I mean, Rock Band has The Beatles this year. Shouldn't Activision have tried to get Guitar Hero: The Rolling Stones?

And, just as a side note, here's the name of the ratings board in the original German: Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle. Makes me glad I took French in high school.

How can you say that it wouldn't work!? Eddie is a really great guitar player. Van Halen had a lot of hits.

i'm with you on this. all of the band based GHs and RBs are niches in a way. i mean, if you don't like van halen, you probably won't get this game. but from a challenge standpoint, the van halen catalog is ridiculous. everyone immediately thinks eddie, but alex is a very talented drummer, and the vocals, either david or sammy, are both pretty dynamic in range.
plus, rocking out to Panama will be badass.

C-C-C-C-CASH WHORE! I hate Activision for just pumping out expansion packs, that's what DLC is for.

Yeah, It would.

But it would also be awesome to see who could FC Eruption first.

Van Halen...sensing this will be aimed more specifically at 40yr old males wanting something to do after work/getting drunk.

Why am I not surprised to see that activision are still (as they've called it) exploiting these franchises to milk as much money out of them as possible

Creating new words by lining-up "elementary" words is very common in German. Thereby "entertainment software" becomes a single term "Unterhaltungssoftware" or "federal border protection" becomes "Bundesgrenzschutz".

Funniest post ever. To me at least...

As for the game, I like Van Halen and would likely get it if I enjoyed plastic instruments. If it has vocals, I'm in no matter what.

Well, damn. I'm gonna have to work fast now for my VH1 development deal.

I've always wanted to make a cheesy celebrity dating show starring David Lee Roth. I don't care what the executives say, it's going to be called "Everybody Wants Some!!"

Rofl @ CSI Miami ^^

But yeah, if they go for Van Halen that would be awesome, perfect songs for a Guitar Hero game. But really, why can't RB and GH just stop fighting, have secks and become one game again? It's just ridiculous that we have to deal with two "band simulators" when one is so much more than enough!

Activision is really milking the living heck out of the Guitar Hero franchaise this year.
