Not bad, even just the base game is well worth playing. I wonder if I can get it so its added to Origin and then log in and get all my DLC and expansions from the Bioware site in one place, reinstalling all those expansions and gear items is time consuming and annoying.
Unfortunately the DLC is still a mess for the game, if you own it for the PC its basically the exact same mess that it is with a CD or Steam install. I have an archive of all the DLC on my USB thumbdrive and manually install it every time, which seems to be the most reliable way to get it to work.

I have been using Origin since Mass Effect 3 was released and since that time EA has constantly improved their service. My biggest issue with it was when it was first announced the EULA was a little too vague, but since then it basically matches Steam. One of the other things that I am not sure if many people know about is if you own any EA games that were released prior to the launch of Origin you can just enter the CD Key there and not buy the games again.

One thing that makes Origin better for Dragon Age: Origins then Steam is that you don't need to have Origin running in the background to play the game so there isn't the conflict that can cause the game to crash.

GAH! I just bought this on Steam a few days ago. Why must you be so cruel, universe?
On Steam it included all the DLC as well. This Origin free game only includes Dragon Age: Origins, no DLC.

So even on Origin it won't just download and install all the DLC and other content? Thanks, saves me going to the trouble of fiddling with it to find out.

Already have it on steam, but it's a nice gesture anyways.

To all the people complaining about origin:
You know you can play the games completely separated from origins, right? I somehow figured out a way to play origin games origin free. Just need to download the games on a separate hard drive and then you're free to play without a client bloating in the background.
(Yes, you still need to buy the games.)

Sadly the answer is not always, so it won't be any better then another copy of the game. My personal belief is that this is a two-fold problem because of the internal programming of the game to support mods coupled with it being designed around Windows Vista, for that was the only OS I didn't have a problem with the game (I just had problems almost everywhere else). I do think they are trying to get the DLC to install via the Origin client for they have been able to get it to work with Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 2, and even have a couple of the Dragon Age: Origins DLC available for purchase that way as well, but its not all of it and it still can be unreliable.

I would personally just add the game to Origin for in-case they ever get it all working, which is a longshot but might happen someday.

My personal belief is that the biggest (and really only) advantage of having the game through Origin is that because it was released prior to Origins release (and all games that were released prior to 2013) you don't need Origin running in the background, but you still do with Steam versions.

What I find funny about the article is that in the picture, the main character is fighting the Harvester (from the Golems of Amgarrak dlc) with what appears to be Starfang (a longsword that appears in the Warden's Keep dlc) and neither of these are given with this deal. It is just the base game (also some other promo stuff if you go looking for it).

Also, I don't know if it comes with this, but anyone who downloads the game should check to see if they have the Stone Prisoner dlc. It should be free now and contains a good tank character to use.

It doesn't come with Stone Prisoner, sadly. That's my main beef with it. Still, DA:O, even totally vanilla, is so much better on PC than console, it's not even funny. And I'm normally a console gamer.
