Get Fallout 3? Or wait for New Vegas?

I've been considering getting Fallout 3 over the past few days, but I'm also aware of the upcoming release of New Vegas in the next few weeks. Is it worth it to get F3 anyway?

Also, would I be correct in assuming that mods for F3 will be wholly incompatible for NV, and would therefore have to wait a while before any major mods for NV are released?

I agree with the above poster, but make sure you get the Game of the Year addition for all of the DLC. I haven't yet gotten the chance to play it, and I really want to.

Yeah, I got fallout 3 with all the DLC. Some of it is hit and miss but its worth it. Anyway, personally I think New Vegas is the way to go so if your set on buying just one then wait. However, I see no reason not to get both.

Or perhaps buy Oblivion and paint it black, it's close enough. (sarcastic)

Yeah, I doubt any mods will be running on NV for a while.

And as everyone else said, get the DLC. Just for the increased level cap and the ability to respawn Dogmeat!

I hated Mothership Zeta though, it was just really really boring to me.

1. Buy Fallout 3 GOTY
2. Only play Fallout 3 for the next couple of weeks
3. Buy New Vegas when it comes out

I would say get NV when it comes out. As for the mods I don't think any of the mods would work since they rely on world space from F3. But I don't think you would have to wait that long for any groundbreaking mods to pop up. I would give it two weeks to a month for any great mods. Modders work fast.

get fallout 3 cause you could probably find it cheap and it will give you a good idea as to whether you want new vegas.

Depends how much cash you can spend on games.

Skipping F3 and waiting for NV wont hurt, its not like they share plotline or anything.
But F3 (and official mods) is the great game nevertheless.

My fallout newbie friend had the same dilemma. Myself and another friend convinced him to get FO3 GotY before NV came out, as myself and the other friend are anticipating NV greatly, and our newbie friend kinda wanted in.

Anyways, I clocked about 80 hours gameplay (GotY edition with DLC) before I felt burnt out/ no longer entertained on my first playthrough file. Then I started another one to play through making different decisions, with a different playstyle, different skills, karma, etc. So I'd recommend getting FO3 GotY if you can, preferably before NV comes out.

Fallout 3 already has a great wealth of mods ready to go, the dlc is pretty good (except for Zeta, total waste of my $10) and is very similar in gameplay to NV judging from the vids. But if you do want to wait for NV and wondering about mods, I doubt it would take much time for the modders to dick around with it.

Buy a GOTY Edition of Fallout 3. Its worth every penny, if yer not sure about F:NV, wait for the price to drop.

Hmm a toughie

In my humble opinion, Fallout 3 is one of those games that is a 'must play', kind of how a lot of people see the half life or Halo series, or the Call of Duty franchise. I haven't played many RPG's besides the 'lighter' ones like STALKER, and so found it a unique experience that pulled me in like nothing else has. Its the first game I actually wanted to play for 120 hours plus, and that was for one playthrough.

So if it were me, I would avoid spending any money for the next three weeks, no toothpaste, deodorant, food - wait to see what the reviews and fan reception is for NV, and if its BAD: Buy Fallout 3 GOTY and wait for NV to hit bargain bin. If its GOOD: Well, its going to be worth playing the whole series as there is bound to be story overlap and 'nostalgia' moments, so get Fallout 3 GOTY, and if you saved enough, NV as well.

In fact just buy Fallout 3 now and then wait til you have enough money for NV. There I could have said that in a sentence, but I didnt.

I don't understand questions like this. If you haven't been interested all this time in Fallout 3, why are you interested in New Vegas at all?

Fallout 3 is a must-play, and should take priority over New Vegas.

It's not that I haven't been interested in it. I just never really got round to it, and there were financial constraints that are a bit looser now.

I say go grab the GOTY edition of Fallout 3. By the time you're done with it all - New Vegas should be a little cheaper.

By the way, I will take no responsibility should you end up taking a fancy to the wonderfully chirpy Moira Brown. :D

It wasnt just me! Oh Moira, the way you put your hand on your overall-clad hip. OK, every female NPC in the game does it too, identically in fact, but with you .. its different. No I dont say that to all the girls. What? You want me to irradiate myself? Yeah, I'll do that. Right now.

Wait a week, check reviews on New Vegas and if they are good then Id go for that. Fallout3 is still pricey for a game as old as it is and then no matter what happens after New Vegas comes out its still there at $50 for the GOTY.

I did see something somewhere that Fallout 3s DLC is supposed to be discounted or something.. not sure where I saw it but that may be a cheaper way to get the game pending on how much the discounts are.
