Finally, some honest to God footage after a long absence. The game looks beautiful and looks like to have plenty of color. Anybody notice that ever since Ni-Oh released in 2017, we've been getting alot more Samurai/Ninja themed games? This, Sekiro, Onimusha being re-released,Samurai Showdown (2019), Ni-Oh 2, and Narak: Bladepoint. The final one on the list looks very heavily inspired by Sekiro and Ni-Oh.

Thoughts and discussion.

It's funny how many ideas tend to float around that are similar in theme.

Anybody remember when Hollywood always made two movies of the same theme?

Volcano and Dante's Peak
Armagedon and Deep Impact

In the case of video games it's usually one game that starts a small trend, and then everyone else twists that idea for themselves.

Nioh came first, and was a souls-like samurai game.

Then Sekiro and Ghost were basically announced at the same time. Though Sekiro obviously was able to come first.

The real question will be, how much will Ghosts follow the Souls formula? Or perhaps, since Ghost is coming so far after, how much will it follow Sekiro's ideas.

Nioh 2 I don't think has anything to do with the samurai theme more so than it's a response to Nioh 1's success. It's only natural that they would wanna make a sequel to a game that got a lot of love. So it's appearance is just coincidence in this whole theme.

Oh, I know Ni-Oh is just a natural response for a sequel, I was just pointing out what gets released in 2020. I highly doubt Ghost will be a full on Souls clone, and seems to be more of a regular action game. The platforming from what we've seen is similar to Sekiro's verticallity. But I noticed the God of War 4/Uncharted 4 in some of the clips too. I highly doubt they would do this, but I hope the rock climbing is nothing like God of War 4's. It's nonexistent platforming.

Hopefully it'll follow none of the Souls formula, it's really not a good formula and really only works for the Souls world. It's like how everyone thought every game should tell a story like Bioshock through audio logs (down with cutscenes!!!), that only works in very specific scenarios.

Yeah, they need to avoid that shit. I don't mind it in Uncharted and am okay with it in God of War, but if they put that in Ghost of Tsushima it would be a real downer. Especially since the E3 trailer showed Tenchu-esque platforming, and the inFAMOUS games having very free climbing as well.

I'm honestly just hoping for an inFAMOUS type game, but in samurai world. Both inFAMOUS 1 and 2 felt very creative in how the superpowers worked off of eachother, and want that same level of wonderful action to be present in Tsushima.

I'm curious to see more with Ghost. Originally the combat looked similar to Spider-Man, built on counters and dodges. Never considered the possibility of a Souls type of combat. Movement seems more built in Spider-Man, as in you can climb everything, going by the gameplay we got two E3's ago.

Either way, I'm only over this game. Duels in fields of roses or under cherry trees both sound and so far have looked like something I'm all over.

The one gameplay trailer I remember seeing was pretty obviously toeing on the AC/Arkham side of things. It didn't have buttons flashing up or anything, but anyone familiar with those could've edited them in without much trouble.

Even in inFamous, I would say they weren't terribly ambitious. There were a handful of interesting ideas, mostly in the movement side of things. Then a lot of stuff that was clearly the superpower-version of bog standard SMG/Rocket/grenades etc.

Fun fact: if all those ninjas have the global average weight of an adult human, about 62 kg, their combined mass would be 2.2x10[sup]52[/sup] kg, which is more than a billion trillion times the mass of our sun, and they would most assuredly collapse into a supermassive black hole that puts any currently known ones to shame.

But still not as massive as your mom.

I imagine Ghost will be more cinematically story-driven and grounded than Sekiro. The combat will probably be closer to God of War in terms of mechanics; having power-ups and runic style abilities, whereas Sekiro was based around the posture system and arm augments.

Saw this clip [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oj8JK6c5x3M] the other day about that had some good comments about how Hollywood has changed. Ever really though about it that way, but yeah. There are still some new good movies being put out here and there, but the ?action star? has faded. Stallone and Schwarzenegger are pretty much done, and when Tom Cruise stops making Mission: Impossible?s he will probably be too.

The part about not remaking movies I can somewhat agree with, but for games I think the concept is more favorable. I just started playing the RE2 Remake and am really enjoying it. There?s just enough nostalgia factor thanks to the setting and characters, but the modern technology has added so much flavor to the rest of it.

Sure, there are some face-palmy elements to the progression (Really, you?re going to make me find a jack before I can jump that 1.5? gap on the top of the book cases? Or, I can?t just discard that ammo for an inventory space to grab the health item to use quick and pick the ammo back up?) but it?s mostly forgiven because of the puzzle element and the fact they?re trying to keep most of that old school feel.

So if this is the year of the samurai, when's the year of ninjas? Or pirates? Or pirates vs. ninjas?

Pirates already came and went with Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. There's one piece pirate warriors 4 coming out next year so that was that. There is also Sea of Thieves, if you're into that game.

Sekiro is a ninja game. In Ni-Oh, you can customized William to look and play exactly like a ninja. There are even ninja costumes you can wear. Even though canonly he's a samurai. The same will apply for Ni-Oh 2 with your custom character. Naraka: Blade Point, looks to be ninja heavy based on the trailer footage. Samurai Showdown (2019) has three ninjas in it. The Ninja Warriors Once Again has robot ninjas.

As for pirates versus ninjas, that meme more or less has died around 2010 or 2011.

Ahh hell yes! That?s arguably better. Speaking of Muse, this [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wJcVLxRtDms] could also arguably work well as a theme song for your avatar.

Hey guys, I don't mind a banter break once in a while, but can you please keep it on topic about the game or relations to the topic. If you can, use the private message for for you music video discussion. Thanks.

Since we are on the topic of samurai/ninja games with a penchant for difficulty, I should really get around to finishing Ninja Gaiden (2004). Seems unlikely we'll get a game like that again. Thanks for fucking that up, Tecmo Koei. Maybe this and Sekiro can sort of fill the void. Speaking of the latter, that's also sitting in my steam library, being lonely.

Torso in the attic, limbs in the basement, but the head is mounted on my front door. Its binary screams serve as warning to the others. Keep that on the down low tho, we're getting disapproving stares in this topic as it is.
