*sigh* Pratchett had it right, there's shit all in this country that if it put its mind to it couldn't kill off the humans. Well at least I live in NSW, we only get the other dozen or so types of poisonous spiders.

Fun fact - I cleaned the front of my house and had 11 spiders attack me, of which 3 I was able to confirm were poisonous.

Oh wow. I'm going to have nightmares now. Thank you.

I hate spiders.

I'm from Florida. I've eaten gator I just killed; I've dodged a charging boar (we call 'em hogs). I've watched the steam rise off a deer's innards on a cold night. I feel I can live on what the land can provide. But if I saw that spider, I would run away and never stop.

Yes, most of wich can kill you in an instant, hurray!
Not in an instant... You will only vomit for 6 hours, then die. Or bleed or suffocate.

I live in Australia and this is the first I have heard of this.
Damn you traditional media! How dare you focus on swine flu instead of the real issue of giant spiders!!!

A similar situation exists in Tasmania (I think) where residents of a town are terrorised by large, extremely resilient ants that can kill if you have an allergy to their venom, an allergy which is very common.

Come to Australia!
We have the greatest wildlife in the world!
This post made me laugh, damn traditional media!
How long does it take for that ant venom to kill you if you've got the allergy?

That is awesome! How come I never find these big deadly spiders in Melbourne? The worst I've gone against is an evil possum that somehow broke into my house.

Aaaah, WHY did I click on the thread knowing full well there'd be a picture of said spiders in the OP??

I'm gonna go cry now...
I'm in the same boat. And I'm going to sleep in a few minutes. I need to remember to repeat "flamethrower, flamethrower, flamethrower" before I fall asleep...

As scary and hardcore as these spiders are, nothing beats the Sydney Funnelweb spider, for being the only animal in the world who genuinely wants to kill you and will cheerfully chase you down even when you don't invade its territory.
...Just so you know, because you said that, I will probably never, ever, EVER, EVER be visiting Australia. For any reason.

EVER.
They only live in Sydney! Just stay clear of rural areas, and you are mostly safe. Except for the white tailed spiders I guess. And all our snakes...

Man, I love my country. WHY IS IT TRYING TO GRIEF ME? ;___;
You could probably be fine if you stay near the beaches. But then there's the Stonefish. And the sharks. And the Blue-Ringed Octopus, the Cone Snail, Bluebottles, race wars, submerged rocks....

You know what, maybe you should stay out of the water.
And don't forget those treacherous rip tides!

Goddamn Australia, attempting murder on every front.
And yet the thing we take issue with most is a lack of an 18+ rating for videogames.
It's because if you badmouth Australia's wild life where it can hear you, sooner or later there's going to be an assassin emu, the world's second deadliest bird, on your doorstep.

Much safer to complain about our sad state of gaming censorship.

Never heard of an Emu hurting people....

It seems almost fitting that the only non-lethal animal Australia has ever produced is now extinct, but was one of the cutest things ever. Damn you Rabbits!
Emus can disembowel a human being with one kick! DDDDDDD:

I've gone blank! Which of our adorable extinct animals did you mean?

First two are funnel webs (thank you google images)

I love living in Australia, seeing the rest of the world cringe as we discuss the deadly animals that most people never see anyway. Its great lol

Also 'King brown' snakes, though not the most venomous, are very aggressive and will chase you
