Damn you traditional media! How dare you focus on swine flu instead of the real issue of giant spiders!!!

A similar situation exists in Tasmania (I think) where residents of a town are terrorised by large, extremely resilient ants that can kill if you have an allergy to their venom, an allergy which is very common.

Come to Australia!
We have the greatest wildlife in the world!
super dangerous ants!

the deadliest snakes in the world!!

and fucking bird eating spiders!!

we rock

Oh god. I would move out of that town faster than you could say "Massive Spider Army".
I'm moving in there with plenty of lighters and aerosol cans. Plus a shotgun just for fun. I might never do anything useful, but those citizens can sleep at night knowing I'm out there, defending their gardens.
Or most likely burning their gardens (and houses) to ash, only way to be sure.
Should I give the humans a warning before hand? Or should I treat them as traitors/ enslaved?

RUN YAHTZEE RUN!!!!!

Seriously, my Dad lived in Sydney for about a month a few years back. He now avoids our basement with a passion, saying that while he knows his fear of the Funnelweb spider living in our basement is irrational, he just can't shake it. So I now have to do all the laundry.

I actually don't think I would be all that scared as most spiders (with the notable exception of the Funnelweb) will not attack you unless you frighten it. And I think I can run faster than a spider, even one the size of my hand. If nothing else, I can jump.

On the other hand I would be absolutely terrified if I ran into one in the Outback, especially if I was more than 3 days from a hospital.

i used to live in australia, now i live in sweden it's cold, wet and grey. Still miles better than everything burning and freak fucking spiders everywhere.
soon the spiders will catch on fire and you really have a b-movie going.
In Sweden a poisonous animal means something that does slightly more than a bee sting.
In Australia a poisonous animal means something that deals death within 2 hours, very poisonous means death within 2 minutes.

Oh, I am so going to hell for this, but...

"You Totally for the ones that kill ya instantly with heart shots!"

Come to Australia! You might accidentally get killed!

As scary and hardcore as these spiders are, nothing beats the Sydney Funnelweb spider, for being the only animal in the world who genuinely wants to kill you and will cheerfully chase you down even when you don't invade its territory.
Your blood is bound to be spilled! 'Cos you might accidentily get killed!

Anyway, I don't think there the worst spiders out there, I have read about a few worse ones, plus when I was in Australia, in the zoo they had a couple worse ones aswell. Like the Funnelweb one..Scary stuff.

Sounds cool. Of course, I may be a bit biased in saying that as I both like spiders and am nowhere near Australia...

Lol. Seriously all the people freaking about never coming to australia. Think of it in this way. Funnelwebs are easily crushed. Venemous snakes generally live in secluded areas, so if you hurt yourself in anyway seriously near where youd find those snakes, youre screwed anyway. Crocodiles are the ones you gota look for.

=)

The one thing I love about Britain... You can count the dangerous animals on one hand.
in australia, we can too... you just need a hand with a few thousand fingers...

One of the reasons I won't go to Australia is because of the spider in that picture lol. The main reason though is because they have the highest amount of missing persons per year in the world. Damned Outback!
right, well at least ours are only missing... unlike in america where they're all murdered...

That's odd. Giant venomous spiders are almost the first thing I think of when I think of Australia. Or at least, I think of them separately (Huntsmans and Funnel Webs, to be precise). But apparently this is unusual.
