Personally I don't understand how people can have such a level of ignorance regarding basic economics as to think Marvel would ever even consider the idea of having an openly gay relationship in their movies given how important the global market is. They're willing to not cast a Tibetan for a role that belonged to a Tibetan so Doctor Strange can be released in China, they aren't going to do something that isn't particularly popular outside of the markets of "Major American City" and "Major West European city that isn't minority-majority".

The East European, East Asian, South Asian and all around non-Western market is bigger then the Western market at this point, and the opinion of gay relationships is less then stellar to say the least. Any gay relationship would be one that dubbing could remove. It's the same reason Phasma being an LGBT character in The Force Awakens is something no one would have known by watching the movie had Disney not told us, and why that will continue in the next two numbered Star Wars movies as well.

Well, to be fair, Marvel is now owned by super gay friendly Disney. That said, as a gay person who is super attracted to Chris Evans, no, Cap isn't gay. But as its been pointed out, it seems like this isn't anything major that people are seriously pushing for, as opposed to giving the Frozen lady a girlfriend which is entirely up to them, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened honestly.

Being owned by Disney only makes it more, not less, likely to never happen. Disney doesn't care about gays. They aren't friendly towards them, but they aren't antagonistic either. They're just out to make money, pure and simple. Every single thing they do is towards the maximization of that, which is why a bathroom problem in a few states will have them pretend to be in support of gays, while they will simultaneously be doing business in nations where being gay is outlawed or even punished by death.

Marvel as an independent studio may have entertained the idea of having one of their movies make a fair bit less money to get a gay character staring role out there. Disney buying them out assured that won't happen.

I wont pretend they aren't trying to make money off of LGBT people, but they are doing it by appealing to us by being progressive and receptive to the community. But if you think Disney isn't in the end VERY pro-gay, then you don't know Disney.

You, me, and the actors who played both Poe and Finn are all in agreement.

If Disney's so pro-gay, why is it that the moment being very anti-gay makes a penny more for them they do so? Why operate in nations which have
criminalized it, some up to the point of executions for having sex or even just existing?

For a company that's supposedly pro-gay, Disney sure doesn't look like it when all is said and done. They didn't start being pro-gay in the US until it became the majority opinion, they still don't do so outside of the US and their movies at most only make it implied that a character is day with easy to miss and even easier to dub over elements.

If Disney is considered good enough to be pro-gay, I'd hate to see what an entertainment company that isn't pro-gay looks like. Though thankfully no such company in the US comes to mind.

Well, I am less sure of Disney outside of the US, so Id have to look into that, but there are plenty of anti-gay companies. Chick-fil-A being a fairly notable recent example.

Also apparently the HRC has a list that rates companies based on such things, but its not very clear how to navigate it honestly.

Edit: Didn't see "entertainment"

I always knew people would eventually lost the ability to differentiate between fan shipping and the professional works.

My serious thoughts are twofold:

1) I hate that habit of assuming romantic feelings in close friendship. You wonder why men can have trouble expressing feelings, it's because if we do someone immediately assumes we're boning. Put down the fanfic and re-learn what friendship is.

2) Given Chris Evens isn't contracted beyond Infinity War, and those movies aren't going to have room for anyone's sex life, it's probably a waste of effort to ship anyone with him at this point. I hate this BS as much as anyone, but at least do Thor, who has another film coming up and his old love interest is out.

To be fair, I assume everyone around me is boning everyone else around me. Not because I actually believe it, but because life's more amusing when everyone's having multiple simultaneous affairs. It's like an Uber Real Life Soap Opera!

This is really annoying. Who demands that a character's sexuality be changed? Are these a bunch of fan-fic "Writers" on Tumblr or vengeful homosexuals who want to leave their mark in as many facets of society as possible? I used to laugh at the conspiracy theory of "Homosexual Agenda", but stuff like this really has me thinking. There seem to be many instances of people demanding characters be openly homosexual.

People ship stupid stuff all the time. I mean people apparently shipped Zuko and Azula in Avatar. They're brother and sister!
Pfft. Incest has never stopped the internet before. By the way, is TonyXVision incestuous, or no?

Saltyk said:
Really, shipping Azula with anyone is an exercise in not understanding the characters. Shipping her with Ty Lee was apparently a thing, but Ty Lee was obviously terrified of her and I got that in the first episode they appeared together in. That's literally saying that you should date your abuser.
Well, abusive/unhealthy relationships are very, very popular. Almost as popular as incest. Almost.

Bucky needs to hook up eith black panther. Did see the tension between the two of them on screen? Though now that I think about it I might be misreading that scene.
I will admit, the way Black Panther hunted Bucky made it clear how thirsty he was, but the way Bucky was running away made it equally clear that he wasn't interested. T'Challa is a hunter, though, so I doubt he's given up. Especially now that Bucky is on ice in his Kingdom. The temptation must be too great.

I'd say no, considering that Vision is both an android and only "fathered" by Tony in a metaphorical sense.

What I'm more concerned with is whether or not he even has a dick.

It's easy to get annoyed about it, but gay relationships in popular media are still comparatively rare, especially well-done, three-dimensional gay relationships between characters whose sole trait isn't "they are gay."

This leads to a lot of people wanting - and kind-of forcing - homosexual innuendo between characters where there wasn't any intended. Such as Supernatural, or the Avengers. This isn't new; it's as old as the Internet. Ironically enough, feeling a need to shoe-horn in a gay romance is itself a symptom of popular media's aversion to gay romance; once we all grow the fuck up and learn how to handle it like sensible people, there won't be a need to spam Tumblr with demands that Bucky and Steve share each other's sausage.

This is something else I argue with my sister about a lot. She's of the opinion that a "bromance" is just a homosexual romance that's been neutered or repressed to avoid offending people (that's an unfair summation, but she isn't reading this). I think that assuming that men can't have close personal relationships with other men without exchanging bodily fluids is just buying into the stereotype of the stoic, emotionally distant manly man who never, ever cries and doesn't care about anyone else. And then you get kids growing up thinking they have to emulate that stereotype (because intimacy is gay, you guys) and then that causes all sorts of other problems with relating to people down the road.

Platonic emotional intimacy is totally possible and extremely common amongst women in media (Sex in the City, for example). It's less common amongst men, because we all seem to assume that giving your buddy a hug while he cries about his mum dying or something is just too gay.

With Tony being all like "Not while Bucky's watching... He might get jealous..."

OT: Well, if Cap did get a boyfriend, then we know that Cap will die while trying to rescue them... because DRAMA! *jazz hands*

Other than that, fuck friendship in this situation unless it does lead to potential fucking, of course... :p

This is fucking bullshit, is what I think. Everyone knows TonyX Cap is the One True P. Everything else is wrong.

Seriously though, this is the internet and especially tumblr. Shipping is fucking rampart and there is no such thing as a platonic relationship. So far, the only way to stop two characters being shipped I've seen is if they're an actual item in the media. Otherwise, unless something spectacular happens, literally nothing, from consent to age to sexuality and common reason will stop them. Especially if they're the same gender cos Yuri/Yaoi slashers are extra hardheaded.

Friendship doesn't exist anymore, motherfuckers! Why do you think you can bang almost everyone in Bioware games? Just friendship with Tali?! Fuck that, we wanna get into her pants, even if it kills her.
