You can't have it both ways. Either games are artful, and Goat Simulator should never have been made, OR games are not art and The Last of Us is just a preachy, superfluous, expensive version of Goat Simulator.
Good thing you told us now, otherwise movies and books are going to end up the same....

Oh, wait...

Art isn't an all-or-nothing thing, and you bet you're going to be called elitist with that attitude.

Look I don't want to sound like an elitist ass, but really? A goat game? The gamer communities wants to be taken seriously, and then this shit comes around! Its literally a walking/talking troll that someone rode so deep into the ground a video-game popped out. It would be like Grumpy Cat: The game, where you are a cat. And you're grumpy. And its popular.
This game, to me, is the most desperate thing I've seen in a long time on video games. Hell, even that 'game' Bonetown was trying just a little less to be liked, to be that quirky game that thought more of itself then it should.

And before you get all over me, saying 'Its a video game. Loosen up and enjoy it!" NO ONE said that about Grand Theft Auto or The Last of Us. No one was saying don't get so hyped on Papers, Please because its just a game and it doesn't matter. This double standard is why the video game industry is struggling. When a good game comes out everyone tongue bathes it for months and months, declaring that finally video-games are a legit art form. But when something like Goat Simulator comes out, BOOM! Video games aren't meant to be taken seriously. Calm down, this is just stupid fun.

You can't have it both ways. Either games are artful, and Goat Simulator should never have been made, OR games are not art and The Last of Us is just a preachy, superfluous, expensive version of Goat Simulator.
Or third.. you can indeed have it both ways, unless you completely have your head up your ass and think "oscar bait" films are the only ones that exist, and that War and Peace, and novels like it, are the only ones that happen.

EVERY art form has light hearted entries. From visual arts, to cinema, to music, and yes, video games.

Can tell you now, i find this to be a lot LESS detrimental to video games as art than The Hangover was to cinema.

Jesus...

Wow the interwebs are getting confused about life.
