God of War Collection Not Coming to Europe This Year

God of War Collection won't be coming to Europe this year, nor will it feature a God of War 3 demo, but it will be region free.

A whole of of "no" news in regards to the recently announced God of War Collection for PS3. First off, the game will not be coming to European retailers within the year. "We are currently looking into options to bring God of War I and II to SCEE consumers on PS3; however it will not be possible to release the games this calendar year," a Sony rep said. "We will provide further information in due course."

That's the bad news. The good news is that European gamers can always import the game because it's region free [http://www.vg247.com/2009/09/03/sony-confirms-god-of-war-collection-for-ps3-is-region-free/], otherwise they can just wait for the compilation to hit stores whenever it does.

One reason folks might feel the irrepressible desire to import is because they're hoping against hope that God of War Collection might include something in the way of a God of War 3 demo. Considering God of War 3's due next March and Collection's hitting in advance of that and clearly serves as a way for Sony to remind folks of Kratos' existence, wouldn't it make a whole lot of sense?

"I know a lot of people played the E3 demo and dug it and everything but, as far as our standards, it's not ready to go into everybody's home," Sony Santa Monica's John Hight told IGN [http://ps3.ign.com/articles/102/1020686p1.html]. "So we wouldn't want to hinder our efforts to get God of War 1 and 2 out."

Eh.

I'm sure everyone will survive. You know, with Rocktober coming up, and the Christmas releases afterwards.

Not really a full collection, though, is it? It's only one and two, and maybe a demo (though I'm not counting terribly on that). Shouldn't it add the other two games of the series, ported to PS3? Or at the very least Chains of Olympus, since no one really cared about the other game they made (go look it up). It wouldn't have to be a whole new game, they could even just port the game as a tie in, the way other games have done, by just adapting the controls but keeping the graphics and style from the PSP version. Wouldn't be that hard, would it?

how hard is it to repackage 2 old games to the console? or are they trying to come up with a hidden level or six axis controls?

Makes me happy to live in America. No offence meant to anyone in Europe, BTW.

Localization. French, German, Italian, etc. releases legitimately take more time because voice acting has to be redone. I think most of those countries have actual laws which force dubbing of foreign movies/games.

OTOH, people in the UK, Scandinavia and some other regions would mostly be happy to just get the English language version as soon as Americans get it, but Sony thinks it's an excellent idea to make them wait with the others.

Oh well, at least with the PS3 people are free to import. Not so with the 360.

Never heard of this. I guess when this hits would be an opportune time to finally get into the series, considering I never did.

Guess it's good the Ps3 is region free, so Europeans can simply import. It would be a dick move if they were jerkasses and forced region coding. Seriously, who does that these days?

To be honest, I see very little incentive to not just get the PS2 versions and save a few bob.
