God of War III Demo Hits Japan Nov. 19

In order to promote the Japanese version of InFamous, Sony is giving away download codes for an upcoming God of War III demo with a listed date of November 19th.

Sucker Punch's urban open-world superpower game InFamous hit retailers in Japan today (well, on October 15th - it's already the 16 there, isn't it?) and in order to make the game a bit more appetizing to the Japanese market, Sony has decided to throw in something extra: InFamous will come with codes to download a demo of the hotly-anticipated God of War III from the PSN Store, reports Siliconera [http://www.siliconera.com/2009/10/14/god-of-war-iii-demo-dated/].

The codes can be redeemed in approximately one month's time, with the demo dated to hit PSN on November 19th. Given that GoW3 is being developed by a Western studio - and that with that in mind, it takes more effort to translate a demo into Japanese - it seems odd to think that an English-language demo wouldn't be on its way to the non-Japanese PSN sometime soon.

It's also interesting when you think about it: Western-made games historically don't perform all that well in Japan, so it makes sense that Sony would want to add some extra incentive for Japanese gamers to look at a game they might have passed up otherwise. But how does it make sense to have said incentive be... a demo for a hyper-violent Western-made game? Did I miss God of War selling a lot of copies in Japan, or something?

I guess Square wasn't going to play ball with Final Fantasy XIII or something.

Infamous will never sell on the potential of the game itself it seems.

First it was the Uncharted 2 beta, and now the God of War 3 demo.

I wonder what Sucker Punch must be thinking, knowing that at least 40% didn't buy the game for the game itself.

The English demo is also coming out in November. It's being packaged with the God of Wars 1&2 bundle for PS3. They're upgrading the original games to high-def and putting them on one blu-ray disc with the demo.

Why do the Japanese need it?

I mean, I'm not ignorant enough to think everyone speaks our language. But most individuals receiving an education overseas knows how to speak English.

Maybe they aren't fluent in it...but then again, its not like they are playing Shakespeare...this is dialogue from God of War we are talking about.

(They could also take the subtitles route for cut-scenes)

Sony owns and published God of War and InFamous...its hardly any trouble for them and will be considered "worth it" if they even get a slight boost in sales because of it...

I'll be trading in my originals to pay for this. I feel like such a sucker, but whatever. The farther I move away from PS2 the better. I'd almost be willing to re-buy my PS2 games in a PS3 format... and that is how Sony is going to make their millions

Fine by me. Update it and I'll buy it. nb. must sell ICO and Shadow of the Colossus to buy updated versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. Can't seem to do it right...
