More Kratos can never be a bad thing. Now I just have to talk myself out of ordering the Special Edition. Stupid Pandora's Box, why must you tempt me!
I know your pain I have been looking at that special edition for so long I want but the price is so much I have been going back and forth on the decision since I first saw it.
I'll probably break down and buy the stupid thing. Curses. I actually bought a second copy of Fallout 3 to get the lunchbox and Bobblehead when the price dropped. I don't often get sucked into these things, but on occasion... Stupid awesome games and their stupid awesome special editions. And here I thought I had exorcised that annoying little collector in me.

Let's hope what they filled it up with is good; rather than the traditional filling of the Blu Ray with sound files or whatever.

I was looking for clips of French audio of the game to show Funk (unsuccessfully)...and found out that Kratos is voiced by a black guy.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

35gb, is that a sign that they game is all flashiness without any substance?
I'd love to know how you came to that conclusion.
Umm... how can a question be a conclusion?

And if you have a PS3 with one of the older small hard drives, how are you supposed to install it? Or even if you have about 60, how to you go about game hopping?

Oh Kratos, you magnificent sexy beast.

I heard that the game doesn't require installation.

...and soon to come - the Xbox 360 port spread over 4-5 dvds!

35gb, is that a sign that they game is all flashiness without any substance? I've never played a GoW game, I've been meaning to pick up #1 for years but never got around to it.
i hope your joking because sony makes god of war, so no 360 port.
That was a joke highlighting the fact that 360s don't use Blu-Ray.

It'll be about 5gb of game and 35gb of cut scenes. No wait this isn't MGS4. It'll be all blood and guts!
Awww, I was Ninja'd... When I first read this story, my first thought was "Oh, I bet a majority of that will be cutscenes."

Honestly, I am hoping that all that space is being used by epically long levels with high-res textures with crystal-clear sound.

no game has more substance than God of War.
...

REALLY?! A hack n slash with more substance than ANY game out there? I played 1 and 2. There's substance, but not too much.

There's no question that this is impressive, but I also have to wonder if maybe PS3 developers just get lazy when it comes to compressing data. "Nah, we've got all that space on the Blu-Ray, why bother?"
As an aspiring game developer, I would ask why it is lazy to not compress the data? Most useful forms of compression are far from lossless and result in a poorer quality. If you have 40+ gb to use, why compress it at the cost of quality? I don't think it was lazy, I think it was a smart decision.

so does anyone know how many dvds it would take for this game if not for the bluray disc?
A dual layer DVD holds 8.5 gbs. This game is at 35 gbs.

35gb / 8.5gb = ~4.1

So 5 dual layer DVDs!

Maybe they could fit it on 4 if they did some compression like I mentioned above. This is pretty realistic because GOW is a very linear game. Switching disks would not be that much of a big deal as far as development goes.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did something similar to what they did with the other God Of War games, namely throwing a bunch of additional stuff on the disc - Challenge Of The Gods / Titans, Arena Of The Fates, videos like the "Fate Of The Titan" or the "other stories" or documentary stuff...that could account for some of the disc space.

However, I also wouldn't be surprised if the reason for the space is that they just plain threw everything including the kitchen sink into the game.

Hmmm. I wonder if Aphrodite is one of the deities Kratos will have to go up against. And if so, will he Circle Button her...or Circle Button her? If you know what I mean.
