<insert missedthejoke.jpg here to sum up comments>

Even if it's legit, it's still a rather amusing jab at the other blocks that completely ignore this sector of 'potentially harmful' material, just because it's 'holy'.

Wow. That seems somewhat misinformed--how will your child be properly prepared to make a decision about their faith and beliefs if they have zero knowledge and experience of what's possible? And it sounds like it's not just the *sarcasm mode* slime-sucking, worthless Christians who are being censored, it's all other religions and their respective holy texts. Sounds a little oppressive and unfair, Internet-freedom-of-knowledge-wise.

Then again, this may a chance to go to hell for our unbelief. Again. To fight....Satan's...cousin?

Ahhh, as much as I'd love to think this was a joke, I've seen too much scary stuff from Jehovah's Atheists to really discount this as a possibility.

Still, if it is a joke, heh, yeah, because religious people are all like that! Funny!

What the hell is the point of this? If someone is honestly offended by seeing the name of God on a webpage, then why are they on the internet in the first place?

Well computer savy people do tend to be atheists and I'm quiet a few of them are violent atheists, so it could happen. It seems like someone got beat with a stupid stick though so it is equally possible that it is a joke.

Wouldn't Godblock also block lots of Atheist sites, since in their explanation and discussion of what they don't believe in, they inevitably have to use words such as God, Jesus, and other excerpts from religions?

I don't believe a web filtering program is sophisticated enough to read the intentions & beliefs of the writers of texts.

I used to work in a hospital Pharmacy department and the web filtering software the trust used on their computers really messed up our research, since it automatically blocked any web pages which contained references to drugs.

first I laughed (atheist)
but i think that not all religious content should be held from them neither to i think only one should be told to they should be told about every major religon there is if they want to know about it but properly only at eight or above and only etreme views when everyone else would learn about it.

Yeah this is probably something to do with DI2.

Are they going to send it to Yahtzee again?

Now if only it was reversed as well, blocking pages that had sentences with the words "Fuck" and "Religion" in them together.

I mean, why not? I'd use that before I used this.

I approve, I don't think children should be exposed to religious indoctrination at a young age and instead, allowed to choose when they're older.

How so?
You stop children from being told this or that religion is right at a young age and they're then allowed to form their own opinion on it later on in life.

You don't need religion to have morals and be social, by the way.

Definitely seems like a "take that" against religion, as opposed to a tool to be used in the upbringing of children, so I'd advise against anybody getting their britches wedged too far up their backsides. At this point, it's nothing more than vaporware, and the concept sounds like a joke to begin with (upload the entire bible to your computer so that it can block the parts it recognizes? Right.) I know this is going to turn into a shit-storm of "those closed-minded Atheists are just as bad as everyone else now", but if you ask me, that seems to be missing the tongue-in-cheek statement being made. Hell, I'd wager that those reactions would be what they were going for, as part of a deliberate, ironic indictment of the same dumbfounding actions religious people make all the time.

While there's always a chance they're serious, I wouldn't bet anything valuable on it. While there are non-religious people out there stupid enough to make something like this and be completely serious about their mission statement, that's really not the vibe I'm getting.

Besides, it's not like there's a market for this. I highly doubt that any Atheists would even consider this necessary, as the vast majority of Atheists I've spoken to (both gnostic and agnostic) were simply given freedom of choice by their parents, and intend to do the same for their children. When searching for answers on your own, the people that can back up their claims and have no problem humbly admitting "hey, we don't know yet, simple as that" definitely have the most attractive explanations to a rational mind, and the story usually ends there.

GodBlock: Keeping Your Children Safe on the Internet

Parents who worry that their children may stumble across offensive content on the internet can set their minds at ease thanks to GodBlock, the new web filtering software that will block out the "violent, sexual and psychologically harmful" material found in many holy texts.
Hats off to you, that was a rather witty joke. I approve.

On Topic: There are other things similar to this, but I don't think the name of the software is going to make people very happy. People are going to complain, but hey, if it does it's job properly, instead of blocking everything remotely associated to violence etc, it's awful.

Ok, that is actually a hilarious idea :D I'm thinking along the lines of it making the point that the Bible is, in fact VERY violent, contains serious cases of abuse, war crimes, gender discrimination, mass murder and genocide.

I'm not sure where that point would go next, but it puts videogames into context ;)

Assuming this is an actual product, you don't develop an entire piece of software to make a joke. But don't be too quick to assume all atheists are smart open-minded thinking people...most are just smug jerks who've never done a lick of theologic or scientific study in their life but like showing off how wise, forward thinking, and openminded they are by pissing all over other people's beliefs.

Which is not to say religious people, most of whom seem to be hidebound easily swayed cowards, are any better, but all people suck, regardless of race, creed, or nationality.

Remember Yahtzee's Letter to the Fanboys: "People are shit."

How are kids supposed to find porn involving naughty nuns and less than ethical pastors with this thing on?!?

I'm on the 'this is probably a marketing ploy' boat, but who knows. There's no reason some atheists can't be as dumb as some religious people out there.
