Godzilla: Resurgence Design Revealed. Ugliest. Thing. Ever.

And not in a good way. So, yeah, this is kinda old news, but I only got around to posting about it now. I'm not even really bothered by this movie really, Toho has been stingy with American releases by my experience in the past, but this is so hideous that I can't NOT share it. Ready?

WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIS FUCKING ARMS!!? This is the sort of shit early Rodger Corman would come up with. I see the thing they were going for, exposed muscle and spindly hands are disturbing, but there is a place for that and I doubt that's a movie where our skinless monstrosity is expected to knock down modern skyscrapers as those hands look like they'd snap on contact with on one.

Anyone got opinions or even worse designs than the upcoming Godzilla?

Took me a while to realize what it reminded me of, them it felt extremely appropriate when it did -

Mother Brain from Super Metroid. Not the exact design, but the general feel, the way the teeth look in the mouth.

Given what's been said about how the plot may go, that seems very approrpiate.

Aight, so as a person who has watched every one (even the american ones) I have to say this isn't the worst. Not by a long shot. 1999's Godzilla as an example. The ones during the kid friendly era were pretty bulky even by Godzilla standards, and the first couple after the original looked like puppets. Godzilla versus King Ghidorah's "Titanosaurus" looked like it was made 20 years earlier. The millennium series couldn't decide what the hell they wanted to do with him. This is the first unique design since the 70's. This is pretty cool. This guy looks scarred and damaged even in the others.. Also it explains this is an origin story about him.

Also, it seems Toho is updating the costume, which is good because they have been banking off of the late 70's one for decades. This one actually seems scary, like a dinosaur. The arms are small yes, but look at the eyes and teeth. That's some nightmare fuel if done right. Also they are really upping the atomically burned skin thing, which always made him seem more unique.

The other article currently on this site about Godzilla says that the design will change through the movie, like he's going to be regenerating, or something. Maybe these are "before" models/costumes?

All I can think of at the moment is all the shit the American Godzilla got for being 'fat' and 'lizard like.' I look at our Godzilla, and then their's (Which I've read some people call the 'Good' Godzilla), and I just laugh my ass off.

That is just... terrible. Hilariously huge shoulder, kinda big biceps, T-Rex forearms. I'm guessing it makes it easier for the guy in the suit when every part of the limb isn't as bloated as the Stay Puft Sailor, but shit.

Looks decent to me. Not the best ever, but he's okay.

He look like he is in the process of regenerating or something (the visible flesh and muscule underneath the skin). Also in a way it it kinda shows you don't mutate perfectly from radiation. (Wasn't that his origin that he's a lizard mutate from radiation or something?)

Lastly his teeth is fugly as if his genetic codes doesn't know how to align and grow the teeth correctly.

Man, that's just an awful looking design. It isn't charming in the retro sense either. It's just ugly.

The eye in the last picture is comical. It doesn't say "Mutated Hell Beast" as much as it says "Sesame Street Muppet".

I think I can see where they are going with this design, it's not aesthetically pleasing or Hollywood cool, but a more 'gritty' idea of what a radiation mutated lizard would possibly look like. Tumour-esque bumpy skin, jagged ill-arranged teeth, overstretched muscles. It's equally a victim of it's own mutation as it is a beneficiary.

Looks like a cross between a giant lizard horrified at the fact that it's currently exploding and a ballsack that's been left in the seventh circle of Hell for too long.

Vaguely reminds me of the collosal titan from Attack on Titan. Exposed muscles, massive size, smaller beady eyes. I'm guessing they're going for a more disturbing, creepy godzilla this time around similar to how the other regular titans are kind of disturbing too (how they have shrunken arms or too many teeth or big head). Initially I wasn't a fan of this design, but I could see it potentially working.

Japan does however now have to quit giving american godzilla crap for being fat.
