GOG.com is Adding Two-Factor Authentication to All Accounts Next Week

If you have an account on GOG.com [http://www.gog.com], you'll send have two-factor authentication protecting it, and you don't have to do a thing. In a press release and mass email over the weekend, CD Projekt announced that it will roll out the new security feature for every user.

If you've used two-factor authentication before, the process will be very familiar to you. The first time you log in to your GOG.com account, you'll get an email with a code in it, and you'll enter that code to continue. The official announcement says "If you're using GOG mostly from home or work, you should only be required to use the Two-step code very rarely."

The company says that you are not required to use the two-factor option, but it will be on by default. You do have the ability to opt out of the feature by Account Settings [https://login.gog.com/opt_out?layout=branded] after it goes live on October 24.

More security is always welcome, as longs as it isn't too intrusive.

Though I do wonder why Mr. Jon F. Hackerman would do something evil to my gog account. I mean it isn't like Steam where you get kicked out if I log in. And even then you can still continue playing your game.

It's not hard to imagine why they're so strict. I'm pretty sure they were getting really pissed with the constant stealing of accounts and just took a hammer to it security-wise.

got the email last week from them. i usually dont have an account but after getting the retail version of witcher 3 GOTY edition, i signed up just for the cloud saving part. at least i read that it will be included.
well, we will see what it will be and if it works.

On the other hand, the entire system is predicated on people owning a smartphone. I don't. So now I can't get rid of all these useless trading cards and get an actual game or some DLC with the money because they kneecapped their Market system in the name of "security".

In other words, it has absolutely nothing to do with two factor authentication. Which is probably why GoG doesn't say anything about 2FA and instead calls this "Two-step login".

Yeah, they put a hold on all trades and market transactions coming out of your account unless you download the Steam app and link your account to it. It's a terrible idea, for a lot of reasons.
