GOG Winter Sale Discounts 600 Games, Fallout Series Free

For the next 48 hours Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics can be snagged for free from GOG.

Winter's here, and while you could make a case for enjoying the season with some seasonal snowman building and what-not, we're pretty sure there's a good number of you who would be much happier hunkering down in your pajamas with some hot cocoa and a stack of videogames until spring arrives. Hoping to help with the stack of videogames part is GOG which, as of today, is launching its 2013 Winter Promo [http://www.gog.com/].

For the rest of the month more than 600 games in the GOG catalog are having their prices slashed up to 50 percent. These discounts will stay in place until December 29th, when the sale will end with an epic finale that will presumably offer even nuttier discounts on select titles. Moreover, GOG customers can currently get their hands on some classic games for free. Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics will sadly no longer be available in the site's library come 2014 due to rights issues, so for the next 48 hours they can all be snagged completely free of charge. If that isn't enough to convince you to pick them up, go ahead and check out our early edition Good Old Review of Fallout for some extra persuasion.

In addition to all of this, GOG is partnering up with well-known YouTube gamers who, every day, will be showcasing different titles from the digital retailer's catalog. These spotlighted games will temporarily be sold for 75 percent off. GOG customers will also be invited to vote on daily game bundles that will, in turn, be privy to a whopping 80 percent discount. Finally, GOG customers will also receive daily "Mystery Boxes" containing special sale offers and even free games. The take away from all of this is that you're probably going to want to stopping by GOG sometime soon.

Update: Thanks to free Fallout being more than a bit popular, GOG has been experiencing a massive influx of traffic that has resulted in some server problems that have been causing some customers trouble. The site, in turn, is working on quadrupling its servers to compensate.

Don't expect to buy anything just yet, it looks like GOG's servers are being hammered.

I did manage to get the Fallout freebies although.

Well, I was wondering why I hadn't heard from GOG about this, but it looks like their site is being overwhelmed, so that explains it. Still, I hope I can partake in this, it's been a while since I last played Fallout 1 and 2, and I don't know what I did with them...

Ugh, I bought them off GOG a couple of weeks back. But they are losing the rights to Fallout? That sucks. So I can't redownload it in future?

I eventually managed to snag Fallout. It's nice since now I don't have to find my CDs when I want to replay them and now I finally own Tactics. Although there's nothing like the original spiral bound manuals.

It's possible that whoever owns the rights will allow transfer to some other digital retailer via a Steam code or whatever. But just in case, it's probably safer to download it now and keep a backup of your own. It's not like you'll ever need to activate them online.

Damn those bad gateways. This Fallout gift is seriously jamming servers. Technically I don't need them right now, but seeing as there is about three weeks until they're gone...

Typically on GoG games that you have in your library you can always redownload, it's just that they will not longer be in the catalouge to be purchased anymore. Currently Interplay has rights to the game, which will soon be handed to Bethesda, which obviously haven't set up an agreement with GoG for them to sell the game.

I don't think so, the Fallout series is already available via Steam so this just might be nothing more than a ploy to attract even more possible buyers.

Well... their servers are a hot mess right now. I'll check back in a few hours, because right now I can't even log in. I do like the picture of the little teddy bear holding up the world like Atlus they've got there though. It made me smile a little bit.

EDIT

And now it looks like they took the Fallout offer off the front page.

EDIT

Yeah their site is screwed. Don't expect to be getting the free games if you haven't gotten them yet, because I doubt the site will be working properly before the offer is over.

Damn it. I just last week bought the Fallout games off of Steam--I used to own the CDs, but lost them in a move or something years ago. Fortunately, they were on sale, so I got all three for around five bucks, but still.

I grabbed Fallout when it was free last time, and bought Fallout 2 as it was discounted at the same time. I'll nab Tactics for free if they're on the verge of losing it! Yay, cheap GOG sale.. when the servers recover.

Managed to snag tactics, but like so many people I already had the classic Fallouts. Still, I very much like what they're doing and it sucks that they're going to lose the license. I should probably go back and actually PLAY these games now.

I DON'T HAVE TIME TO POST A COMMENT, PLANESCAPE: TORMENT IS ON SALE!

EDIT: Dammit, the servers must be flooded or something, I can't get to the checkout.

Well, it took me three hours to be able to add both Fallouts to my cart. Now to see how long before I can get to the checkout... not long at all apparently, as it processed while I was typing this. Awesome.

Site was crowded as fuck, so thats why they probably took Fallout freebies off the front page
Also probably the reason why the traffic was so high.
Just type in fallout in the search bar, you'll be good to get then.

Also, I do love free stuff, first thing that happened when i created an account was getting 7 free games (And plus the fallouts, that makes 10) Not a bad way to start the evening.

I got Fallout one of the other times it was free and bought Fallout 2 for around $2. I don't have Tactics, so I might as well pick that up.

Wow, GoG's site is getting completely overwhelmed, not that that is surprising considering. At least I managed to checkout so Tactics should be on my account page when the site gets back to normal.
