Well, I've only ever played one game on the Wii, but Super Smash Bros Brawl is a fun game to play with friends.

If they made time crisis for the wii, I would get it straight away. As long as they don't kiddy up the graphics. Also I think ghost squad was supposed to be coming out for it. Any arcade shoot'em up would be amazing on that consle. But it seems that nintendo just want to re-release the same wii sports crap over and over.

Wario Ware is an essential party game. I don't really like Mario Kart but it's really easy to play as well.

Uh, No More Heroes is probably the most interesting game on the system. Mario and Zelda are pretty much at, "You already know if you want to play these games" status. Mushroom Men is coming out soon and it has a Les Claypool soundtrack.

World of Goo is pretty fun but in my weirdo opinion no Wii should be without Orbient. It's the coolest downloadable game I've played in a while.

Twilight Princess is amazing. Red Steele takes some getting used to but once you are used to it, its great.

To start off, I am a Wii owner, but in midst of finding someone to buy it or trade it for a 360.

the *good* game list is fairly short, and even now, they are apparently recalling Wii guitars because they leak battery acid.

Force unleashed sucked and was awkward, see the on-site review. No more heroes was good. Elebits was interesting. Smash Brothers was decent enough, but not on single player, its a definate multiplayer game all the way.

I'd maybe just get a 360 and buy Fable 2, GoW 1 & 2(soon to release), and any of the slew of good 360 games.

Mario Kart Wii is a must buy. It Mario kart on the Wii what more do you need? Online? Check!

Mario Galaxy is still not Mario 64 but its better than Sunshine (although almost anything is better than sunshine)

Wii Sports is great and its free (*some restrictions apply)

I'll assume you already know about the essential first party games, so I'll move off the beaten path a little here.

If you didn't get the chance to play it on PS2 or 360, I'd definitely recommend picking up Bully. The Wii control scheme works surprisingly well, and the game's hilarious and smart writing still feels fresh, even a few years after it's initial release.

Rayman Raving Rabbids is surprisingly fun, if a little shallow in the gameplay department. I'd recommend it for party gaming. You know the atmosphere I mean; fun gameplay that's easy to jump into for a few minutes.

I haven't had the opportunity to play it myself, but I've been hearing good things about Boom Blox. Again, it's a little light on the gameplay, but it's hefty physics engine supposedly makes up for that.

Excite Truck is a lot of fun. The controls really take getting used to, but as far as racing games on the Wii go, you could do a lot worse.

So far, I've gotten plenty of play time out of all but one (Raving Rabbids) of the Wii games I own:

Boom Blox - I don't know if it's really worth 50 dollars, but most of the game modes are very enjoyable, and some of the multiplayer modes can be very fun

Mario Galaxy - I enjoyed this a lot and played it for a while, but haven't played it since beating it several months ago

Mario Kart Wii - Obviously, a fun game for groups, though if you take your racing a little too seriously, it can get frustrating at times

Super Paper Mario - More text than I'd care to read in a mario game, but a pretty fun 'rpg'/platformer game. The 2D-to-3D mechanic is a pretty cool gimmick too, and is used quite nicely

Smash Bros. - You probably already know enough about this by now to know if it's a must-own for you or not

Metroid Prime 3 - I just purchased this recently as part of a b2g1 free deal and haven't tried it yet. Looks fun, and from what I hear, the controls are great.

Like others have said, No More Heroes is supposed to be a great game, as well. You also might want to look into Geometry Wars (Galaxies?) for the Wii, as well (if the price is right).

Good luck, and enjoy the console! There's a ton of shovelware, but enough fun games to justify owning the system.

Yes, and majority of the shovelware is in blockbuster which makes finding the good ones tough >_<

Oh, and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 is pretty good too!

Well, if you like point and click adventure games, Telltale Games (Sam and Max series) has released Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People, full with humor and interesting puzzles.

Along with point and click, check out Zack & Wiki, also recalled last year for being offensive.

Hey there's still Madworld and NMH2:DS (not "DS" title, it's called Desperate Struggle or something) coming out. Some Himalayan survival horror thing is coming too.

I believe everyone have already stated the first party games, and I honestly think Zelda:Twilight and Metroid are absolute must-haves for when you first get the console. SSBB, MarioKart, Super Paper Mario (or PaperMario:Thousand Year Door for the gc), and Mario Galaxy are great under that.

For other games, look for No More Heroes (bloody boss battles), Zack and Wiki (puzzle game), Excite Truck (racing sim), De Blob (unique platformer), RE4 (third person shooter), Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 or 2 (if you must have minigames), Fire Emblem (strategy), The Lego Starwars games if you don't already have them, Medal of Honor (shooter), Harvest Moon (farming sim, if you want a relaxing game), and I've run out of steam - though I know I'm missing a handful of other types of games.

Coming out this winter are Deadly Creatures (bug platformer/fighter), and Tales of Symphonia 2 (rpg). I'll keep preaching those until people stop saying that Wii has no new interesting games coming out.
