Deus Ex (steam or direct2drive sells this game, so do other places as well probably. Yo could also try the onlive version but need a good fast internet connection, limits the saves, and no modding. )
Planescape: Torment (get this at good old games abbreviated GOG )
Fallout 1 and 2 (get these at good old games)

Among my favorite games. I play mostly RPGs though.

Also, if you got a fast stable internet connection you could always try onlive site to play some games.

But seriously GOG has a good amount of good old games and most of them should work. The only one I think that will definitely not work from the GOG site on that laptop is Witcher 2. (I think the first Witcher would since I played it on a laptop that isn't that much better htan yours I think. May want to try the demo for the witcher before you buy it though just to be sure if you're intersted in it.)

You may want to try dotemu site as well which I haven't used but updates old games to be more playable on windows 7.

The biggest issues you are going to have with running older games is the fact that you are using Windows 7 as your platform. A lot of older games that came out utilize DirectDraw which doesn't run properly under Windows.

Starcraft: Broodwar to add to the list
Warcraft 1, 2, and possible 3

I can still recommend Medieval II: Total War after my last nostalgia reinstall two months ago.

Other than that...

Hitman 2, Fable, Counterstrike, Warcraft 3, and Commando's 2 have stood the tand of time fairly well.

...plus you'll be helping out charities and stuff. Well, unless you only pay like a penny. But that would make you kind of a dick.

There is also Onlive.
It's nice, and you don't even have to pay anything untill you really want to.
And all of the games will run, even the most graphic intensive ones. give it a try.

Rome: Total War. Or any total war game before Medieval II should run fine.
You can't go wrong with Dawn of War.

I don't think the internet works that way... I think you do have to live in the USA but more for legal than technical reasons. If you have a fast stable internet and live in the USA you should be able to play Onlive. I don't get how the 100 miles from a server thing even makes any sense.....

Id say you could get vampire the masquerade, Oblivion and mostly stuff circa 2003-2006

Honestly people overexaggerate system spec needs. I say just think of a game you might want to play and check Canyourunit.com as a loose guide and you should be fine.

I have no idea what your computer's specs mean but I'll list some games that work on my laptop (which is an utter piece of shit)

Visualboy Advance
The Powder Toy
Diablo 1 and 2
Plants vs Zombies
Minecraft (with fast graphics, tiny render distance and low frames per second)
Starcraft 1 and 2 (with really low frames per second on minimum graphic settings for 2)
Warcraft 1, 2 and 3

It would really help if you listed genres or games you enjoyed in the past.

Frozen Synapse
Great turn based strategy game. It easily runs on my rather low end netbook. You should have no issues with it. I highly recommended it.

DEFCON
Inspired by the ending of movie "Wargames", this RTS has you in control of one of the world's superpowers on the dawn of a nuclear war. A small, yet loyal following keeps this game going. Lots of mods to try out and the AI is pretty good.

World of Goo
A quirky puzzle builder, World of Goo has a great mixture of a unique art style, great gameplay, and a quirky sense of humor. You've got to at least try the demo.

Trackmania Nations Forever
This game reminds me a great deal of the old slot car sets I used to see when I was little. It isn't uncommon to see loops, jumps, and vertical banked turns in this free to play arcade racer. While there is a paid version, you'll be able to enjoy most of the online content with the free to play version.

Oddworld Series
Oh, where is there to say about this quirky platformer? While quite difficult, this quirky game series sends you on an amazing journey. While I'm not sure if you'll be able to run the last two games in the series, I do know that the first two will be easily handled by your computer.

Spacechem
Perhaps my favorite puzzle game. Spacechem looks far more complex than it really is. Using a combination of chemistry and basic programming, this puzzle game will have you searching for the best and most efficient solutions. With several ways to solve each of the game's challenges, you can spend many hours refining your solutions to be as efficient or quick as possible. Download the demo and try it.

X Series
The X series reminds me a great deal of the late 90s game Freelancer. Only in much grander scale, without the repeating dialog, and better written. You'll most likely be able to run the first couple games of the series, and maybe the third with lowered graphics, it is a great space sim where you can go do what you want. Want to go reek havoc? Get a decent space ship and start blowing up stations! Want to be a trader? So be it. It is a great space sandbox. Be warned, the later games do get quite complex. You may need to watch some videos to get up to speed.

Revenge of the Titans
The first of two tower defense games, Revenge of the Titans is a bit different from the norm. For one, there is no set lanes. So, creeps can break off from the pack and completely bypass your defenses. Also, there is a great assortment of weapons and upgrades to buy and research. A scaling difficulty will make it so that you're always facing a challenge, no matter how much money you're able to put away.

Defense Grid: The Awakening
Of course, the big name in tower defense has to be Defense Grid. This is not without reason. A great story, strong voice acting, and challenging levels makes for a great overall game.

Any of the STALKER games should run reasonably well. Up until a couple months ago I was running a terrible system that couldn't handle any level of hardware newer than about 2006, but Call of Pripyat ran beautifully on medium quality and resolution settings. It's definitely worth a shot.

The Baldur's Gate series, the Icewind Dale series, Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights series (even though some didn't like them). You could play any of the non current gen battlefields most likely. Call of Juarez (the original) doesn't take much. Fallout 3 if you are willing to go below medium graphics can be surprisingly undemanding. C&C Generals is fun if you feel like some RTS.
