Honestly, I didn't. After having read the posts before mine, I see your point. I still find it valid however, as there were at least 2 condoning the idea.

Now I know that you jump to conclusions. You have lost all credibility in my eyes.
I really don't mean to sound like a jerk here, believe me, but it don't really care for credibility. I speak my mind, and while I see that I should have paraphrased my statement to be questioning instead of claiming; I still can't say I regret the post. I am angered personally by the lack of solidarity in much of the American populace, and I just thought this thread to be absurd. I read one post, the last one at the time, since I scrolled to the bottom for the reply to thread box. The last post condoned the idea, and I reacted accordingly.

Obviously I see that I do care for credibility, just look at this post, but I still can't say I regret "Jumping to conclusions", the bolded statement was to catch the eye of the reader, and intice dialogue, rather than be a sound and well-founded claim.
Well you wanted attention and you got it, either way statements like those make you the poster boy for the new escapist. Where no one reads beyond the topic title.

On topic, why is every American plan to throw money at something? This is the reason your dollar is running on fairy dust and the only reason China hasn't let America become a third world nation already is because that would cause hyper inflation over there.

Got the same kind of system here in the UK-depending on your household income you can claim up to about £30 a week if you stay on for 6th Form, and you get bonuses for doing well. It seems relatively effective too, when I was in 6th Form there were many people there I did not expect to see.

There's an obvious flaw. Generally the best grades are achieved by people from wealthier backgrounds because they have a greater societal ethos favouring education and in many cases the money to see their kids go to better schools. Which makes this to a large extent a subsidy for people who need it least.

I read the OP and instantly LOL'd. It's funny to read how f**ked up ideas the leaders and other influential people of foreign countries can get.

You know, in Europe people work for their own future and if they dont its their problem ;) (this is a joke)

What id like to see is that if you get good grades in high school, you get to pay less for further education, so an indirect reward.

England has something similar to that. After GCSEs and compulsory learning, you can apply for an EMA, which gives you a certain amount of money (Depending on background, family, where you live etc.) if you decide to go on into further education. It's one of these ideas the government came up with to tempt kids into going back to school if they failed or dropped out so that they can get better education and actually do something with their life.

I'm sorry that's the way you see it, I don't mean to express some sort of acceptance of the "TL;DR"-syndrome that is growing on the internet. I had just been reading through some old threads here, many people claiming that public and/or universal healthcare was wrong. I was tired, angered and frustrated that people could feel like that; And I wrote my post because of that.

I refuse to accept you dubious title as a "posterboy for the new escapist", because I do, in no way whatsoever, condone the "Too Long; Didn't Read"-trend.

I can't see the point of your post, however, excuse me, as it seems rather needless. Why? Because I have already expressed why I did what I did, and thought to have made myself quite clear on those points.

Oh, and by the way, I can see that I care way too much. Future posts won't be as long and serious. I need some comedic relief. Give me some, please.
The point of my post was to have a go at you for justifying why you didn't bother reading the topic before posting. An apology goes much farther than any form of justification. The other point was to make a remark at how America manages to blow through so much money every year.

Will the amount of money awarded be based on overall performance, or on how much a student has improved their grades?

If it's based on the latter, it could encourage students to purposefully underachieve at the beginning of their school career, just so that when they start performing to their ability they will get more of a monetary bonus.

What idiot thought this was a good idea? Name one other (successful) country where the government directly pays aka bribes students with money to get good grades? Not to mention the fact that we dont need to be wasting more money.

I think bringing back real competition to school rather than this "Self validation" crud would solve the problem.

Truthfully I think the entire problem with the educational system is we spend so much time on security, self validation, and making sure nobody truely "fails" (ie lifting up the bottom echelon of students) that we've turned our school system into something most kids can recognize as a joke and a waste of time. They teach you one thing, and then 20 tests/assignments later your still working on the same crud just to make sure that the slowest student in the class can have it drilled into their brain. As a result a lot of the students figure "F@ck this" and don't bother.

Well, that's fucking stupid.I would like a link too, so you can clarify this.

Actually, if anything, this is a good sign that the education system as it is, is going to die out. Which is great. I can't remember the last time the things I learned in school helped me in the real world.

I guess I can embrace the fact that I will be homeschooling my kids now. :) (I'm 15. It's probably too early to think about it.

We should do what the Japanese did after Perry and send people around the world to find the most successful system (in this case, school system) and then adapt that to America. Just because we are the best country on the planet doesnt mean we are the best at EVERYTHING (let it never be said that Americans can not be humble ^_^).

Better not pass. It's a waste of money. People are always talking about how awful the economy is and how we're wasting money and then they try to pass this?

England gives people money directly through EMA to encourage them to stay on into Sixth form and learn new skills they can use in the workplace, no idea if its helped yet though as its only been going for a few years.

So none of you are dismissing this idea, but you are dismissing an improved healthcare system?

Don't you think that if this ever passed, that taxes would get raised as well? Give me a fucking break.

Also, I think they'll get robbed by the kids with the crappier grades.
