Goonies Director Teases Sequel. Again.

Richard Donner once again promises that a sequel to his kiddie-adventure classic is on the way.

Cornered by TMZ about whether or not he would ever direct another superhero movie, Richard Donner (he directed the original Superman with Christopher Reeve in 1976) instead opted to give his (by now) annual reassurance that a sequel to his classic 80s youth adventure The Goonies. The story was later supported by AICN. [http://www.aintitcool.com/node/66832] When pressed as to whether any of the original cast would return, Donner replied "All of them;" but while the original cast included still-famous Hollywood fixtures like Sean Astin, Josh Brolin and Corey Feldman, many others have since left the industry for other careers.

Released in 1985, The Goonies were a group of young boys from Astoria, Orgeon who attempted to save their families' homes from foreclosure by following a map to a fortune in gold that local legend claimed had been hidden in caverns beneath town by the pirate One-Eyed Willy long ago. Their quest led them to a network of devious Temple of Doom-style traps and riddles, and into conflict with a family of notorious criminals.

In a famous instance of marketing miscommunication, a video game titled Goonies II was released on the NES in 1987, leading many younger fans to believe that a sequel was already being produced. In reality, it was the sequel to a Famicom game based on the original film that was not released for direct sale in the U.S.

No. Please Hollywood, no. We don't need this, and I'm willing to bet by now most Goonies fans don't even want this. Why tarnish the memory (And future merchandising opportunities. Eh, eh?) of such a great movie? The only thing worse would be a remake.

No. Just no. It's one of the best movie for child, even today. This is one of my favorite movies and i don't want to see hollywood butchering it.

I recall see the goonies a long time ago. from what little I can recall; I can't say for sure if a sequel would be unnecessary. Although Hollywood is very good at finding ways to screw it up a movie.

Because if they make a sequel to a movie that old, they'd be idiots for doing so.

An offering to Satan prequel would be the only way that they'd get away with this/do it in general.

So yeah, don't make another one, please! Is there no property left that Hollywood will leave unsullied?

I am imagining a Blackadder remake starring Matthew Broderick as the man himself.

TMZ is a very unreliable source. Chances are the director simply gave their 'journalists' something to chew on so that they would go away. I don't see a direct sequel of the Goonies happening. Perhaps it's possible there will be a sequel eventually, but it won't be a direct sequel with the original cast.

The Goonies is still one of my favourite childhood films alongside Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Big and everything Disney.

Why cant they just make a new original movie about a bunch of kids searching for hidden treasure? Ok, yep its still kinda Goonies, but still it would be better received than a named Goonies movie. Plus i would have no idea what they would do for a Goonies 2 - The hunt for Chunk.

Seriously, though, there is no need for a sequel to the Goonies. It's an awesome movie, and it should be allowed to keep that legacy untarnished by Hollywood's desperate need for a new cash cow.

I'd sooner trust a Lion with a slab of meat than those gossip mongers, and lets be honest even if they did get an actual chance to talk to Richard Donner, is there anything you think he wouldn't say to get them to leave him alone? I know I would, my first act would be to take credit for the original pitch for Waterworld, then bat-nipples and whatever the last thing the internet had it's hate-boner for and finally to be king of Canada (I am, but don't tell the Canadians they still think they have a democracy)

I mean, they are still digging through the 60s-90s for obscure properties that no one wants anymore, but once they get to the 2000s, oh God...

An S-Club 7 remake.

That would just be an especially potent mix of awful and horror considering the original series was shit too.
