I've never really been into Goosebumps except on a so-bad-it's-funny level (incidentally, I highly recommend this blog [http://www.bloggerbeware.com/2006/03/01-welcome-to-dead-house.html]), but I'll be watching this movie just because it has Jack Black in the lead.

This is exactly what I was thinking. It looked cheesy as all hell and I loved the Goosebumps books growing up. Hell, I loved the Goosebumps series no matter how terribad the acting and special effects were.

Unrelated note. What's wrong with Aliens vs Monsters? It was corny, sure, but pretty cute. Plus I actually liked the lead, which is more than I can usually say in those animated movies for kids.

Sounds exactly what I am expecting, and exactly why I am going to see it. My friends and I saw the first trailer when it started showing up and we all turned and looked at each other and said, "We have to see that!" So yeah, I guess I'm part of the audience they're going for.

On a side note, that stupid dummy scared me when I was younger, especially the when he appeared in the TV episodes. Living, talking dolls are not my thing. I still get a little chill when I see him in the trailer now. Ugh.

I can't speak for Gulliver's Travels, but I agree with your view of the other two. Seth Rogan as Bob was an exemplary casting choice, and was to MvA what Beymax was to Big Hero Six.

OT: I was a rabid Goosebumps fan through primary school- I even read the Choose Your Own Scares and owned a VHS or two- but I'm also quite particular when it comes to which movies I see at the cinema (I'm not exactly made of money), and I need more boxes ticked other than "nostalgic".

Let's see here...Shark Tale: A movie I own, but never watch anymore despite having Will Smith and Jack Black...Monsters vs. Aliens: A good movie with some shortcomings, Seth Rogen, and Steven Colbert...Gulliver's Travels: A forgetful film that's only as good as Jack Black and/or Jason Segel, for example...Holy shit! Jack Black wasn't in Monsters vs. Aliens... or WAS HE? *Dun dun dun dun dun*

OT: "Nostalgia", eh? Well, it worked for me for The LEGO Movie, so I guess it should work again for Goosebumps... even though I was already spoiled two things that happens in this nostalgia-fest of a movie...

R.L. Stine, himself, plays the drama teacher and the Goosebumps TV series theme song doesn't make a cameo in this movie...

Monsters vs aliens was goofy, sure, but it had its funny characters XD I mean a cockroach mad scientist? brilliant.

as for goosebumps....I'm torn between seeing it or not......haven't had time to see one in a while......eh well...

I was just about to say the same thing. Monsters vs Aliens was surprisingly good, with some great gags, decent action and relatively interesting characters - even a bit of political commentary! Not saying it's a Wall-E or even The Incredibles, but it's certainly at the top-end of the Dreamworks roster.
