Technically, I was hired by a contract work company, which was partnered with Meta to do prototype testing. It was fun, and I met a lot of great people here, but the hours were super short and it was more or less a side job.
The exit benefits are okay, and I got another full-time career job so I'll be fine in terms of finances. But it's a little surreal to be affected by layoff; This is my first ever layoff and while this was a side job, I am mortified for anyone who is part of this and had stable and high-end positions at Meta.
This used to be my only job before finding my career job, and I am sad to see I won't see my awesome manager (who managed to convince everyone in upper management to give me a raise!) and great coworkers who were the nicest people I've ever met.
I am not gonna ignore all the unethical and stupid shit Meta did up to this point (seriously, WTF was that with Metaverse?), but I came to realize just because the organization as a whole is bad doesn't mean individuals are as well. And the low-end workers are most affected. Go figure
