I bet if someone showed this forum to the people who want to ban GTA 4, they would probably change their minds.

If if I did learn how to do some things from video games (when I was hunting when I was little I knew pretty well how to handle, safety and load firearms without every having touched one before.), I never did kill anyone. That's because most people aren't a bunch of assholes who set stuff on fire because they weren't beaten enough when they were kids. It's too bad the way law is set up it doesnt cut through the bullshit nearly as effectively as an angry old-timer.

Watch your dumbass kids and if they're likely to pull some stupid shit, beat the fuck out of them 'till they know better.

its the scream (2?) cop out, kill someone and blame it on the movies (or in this case, a game) and anyone who believes he did whatever he did solely because he played a game gets my recomendation for 'retard of the year'. He was either mentally disturbed or it was an accident but either way he did not do this because he though hijacking cars in real life would be as easy as pressing the Y button..

as for the bombings, i really dont remember an in depth mini game where i constructed a bomb from real life conponants. These cops, politians, judges should really play the game before they believe this bullshit story

oh and - "murder simulation training products." = instant classic

Sigh.

Molotov cocktails are easy to make, that is why they are the most common improvised explosive. Maybe they did learn how to make them from GTA, who knows. Personally, I knew how to make them when I was in middle school.
Making Molotov cocktails is easy, knowing how to throw them is a different matter all together.

I've a friend who used to live in Northern Ireland & he told me the story of the first (and only) time he tried to throw a Molotov cocktail during a riot with the police/army, on the estate where he grew up. He said he didn't know any better, & tried to throw it as hard as he could, like you would throw a brick or how you see people throwing grenades in films, but as he raised his arm & to wind up the throw he poured burning petrol all down his back!

He said he was rolling around the floor in flames & people on both side of the riot were LOLing, someone put him out quickly & only his pride & tracksuit were hurt, but it was so shocking & funny apparently the rioting stopped quickly after that & everyone went home, mainly to laugh at him!

He said the worst part of it all was trying to sneak past his mum & go to his bedroom, reeking of petrol & practically naked at the back where his clothes had been.

Yeah...I'm going to go out on a limb here and say these people aren't really dedicated gamers. Actual gamers would know enough not to blame a good game for their actions, whereas these children seem to have merely latched on to the latest controversy in hopes of not being punished. The sad thing will be if it works.

That aside, we should all be thankful that GTA draws all of the controversy flak away from all the other violent games. Coming down with righteous fury on GTA4, Jackie boy? That's fine. I'll just go play Gears of War or Assassin's Creed or any of a dozen other games that you so obligingly overlook.

Mmmmm...the sweet smell of diversionary tactics.

I do think certain games like Manhunt are kind of irresponsible, both to the people who play them and the industry as a whole. Obviously the vast majority of us can play these games and remain stable, but they do make a wonderful scapegoat.

GTA however, its part of the storyline, and any violence seems quite acceptable to me, after all, killing sprees, or even just resisting arrest usually ends up with riddled with bullets by the police, so its teaching anyone who'd played it that there would be harsh consequences for unlawful actions.

I'm with Rockstar games on good ol' Jack T tho, they were quoted as saying something along the lines of 'We thank our lucky stars for Jack Thompson, we might be concerned if we had someone sane and competent campaigning against us.'

Really tho, I'd consider the opinion of someone who was against violent video games, but anyone saying "reckless worldwide distribution of its murder simulation training products. This is just the latest killing incident prompted by your murder simulators. I aim to make it the last." Murder simulation training products? You could almost vaguely in some way pin that on Wii Manhunt 2, with it making you make stabbing motions to kill, etc, but GTA, ridiculous.

Also, Did Jack Thompson not, like everyone other 4 year old boy, chase his friends around the park making gun shapes with his hands and shouting BANG? I'm assuming he had to train to be the monumental tool that he is now.
