Grand Theft Auto V Soundtrack Includes 240 Songs, Original Score

Grand Theft Auto V looks like it'll be massive in every way, and the soundtrack is no exception.

Rockstar has always put together some impressive soundtracks to accompany their crime sandbox series of choice. The music of Grand Theft Auto V, though - like everything else we've seen about the game - is raising the bar higher still. While you roam the streets of Los Santos, you'll be able to tune in to 15 radio stations and two talk stations, featuring 240 licensed songs. When you aren't jamming out to your preferred genre of music, you'll be treated to an original score - the first in series history. Between all the music composed for the game, Rockstar says it's delivering about "20 movies worth of score."

"For this game, which is set in our version of modern day Los Angeles, what was important for us was to capture that feeling of L.A. and California," says Ivan Pavlovich, soundtrack supervisor. "One of the things we've never done in a GTA game before is a pop station; exploring that made so much sense in the context of L.A."

In addition to the radio stations, an original score plays sometimes during missions and open world gameplay. The score was a joint effort between three composers, each one focusing on a different style. As you play the game, the character you're controlling and the area that you're in dynamically alter the balance of the score, allowing for background music that smoothly adjusts to the player's actions.

Ah yes, the glory that is GTA talk radio. San Andreas and Vice City had such great talk radio, sad that GTA 4 seemed to be missing something from it's radio.

Well Besides this

Leave it to Rockstar to pick Alchemist to do the score. He the best Hip Hop producer, no one's heard of. Can't wait.

While cool, i'll honestly never hear a lick of it. I'll be tuned into the talk radio station 100% of the time.

I'm hoping there will be a Trance station in GTA V. If there is I want it to have artists like Thomas Datt, Gareth Emery, Above and Beyond, and Armin Van Buuren.

Would be nice to have a custom radio station, just in case you read the spoilered music list and only found maybe two songs worth listening to.

That would be nice and I would definitely like to see them patch it into GTA Online. Like a radio station you can put your own mp3s onto like on the pc.

However I've seen the leaked list and there's nowhere near 240 songs on it, unless you've seen a recently updated list. In case you have, please share. But the cool thing is finding songs you never knew you would like. I didn't think I would be listening to the Mexican station as much but after hearing the sample of it, I'm really looking forward to that one.

Honestly, I'm probably going to spend my first few hours of the game just driving around in different cars listening to music.

an original score is a first? Eh? What about the first two games?

As for a custom station, that's been a feature of the PC version since GTA 3. Hell, even the first game, on the PC, you could swap the game CD for a music CD.

Good news, Am really hoping Lazlow is still in it and that Fernando Martinez. Love those guys and am really excited about whats gone on with their lives since GTA4. were the role they had was kinda lame IMO. and lets not forget Darius Spontain.

One thing i would really love there to be in a GTA game is mission/chapter where you are in a prison and am thinking with this whole character switching thingy means you can just leave the guy in the prison to do his time or play with them and maybe get involved on some sort of escape.

Depending on what you choose to do and when that guy gets out will determine his attitude to the other guys.

Flying Lotus is 'hosting' a station. The list in this article shows some songs which weren't mentioned in the leaked list, so maybe that wasn't all of it?

No pop station before? I remember Vice City pretty much being almost all pop music...

Lets just hope the game is not as bland and boring as i found GTA4 to be. One of the few games i got partway through and just... well, couldn't be bothered with.

Two wants: A station that plays desert rock (QOTSA) and one that plays EDM. I read somewhere that Kavinsky will be hosting a station, so that bodes well.

Well I wont be listening to anything unless there's a metal station, and if that's not the case then I'll just have to play my own music which sucks because it plays over cutscenes.

Oh come on!

By now it can't be too hard for them to make it so that you can just dump your own MP3's in a foler, and have a custom radio station that way.

I mean a F2P game called Project Torque did it, and they shut down 3 years ago!

[sub][sub][sub][sub]at least, if my memory is supportive of me today. [/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]

There is never more than one or two songs worth listening to and after you heard the same shit on the talk stations of the millionth time that gets old too.

I'm glad to see Woody Jackson is returning.

His and Bill Elm's work on Red Dead Redemption was masterful, with almost 20 hours of original music gracing that game.

Their music was one of the key elements that contributed to the atmosphere of Red Dead Redemption and made it a joy to experience, so I'd imagine aimlessly exploring the countryside surrounding Los Santos will be a similar pleasure.

Hmmm wonder what those three differnet styles could be. Maybe gangster, corrupt family man and....Trevor.

Sounds good. I just hope they put deadmau5 in again or at least a house music station. Not really looking forward to the pop station but whats great about GTA is I don't have to listen to it.
