So I've been meaning to replay GTA 4, mostly because I never got to finish it and because I love Russian pop songs :p I plan to get it for the PS3. Two questions:
1) Does the game look and play better/worse/same on the PS3 than the 360?
2) I hear there's a new edition coming out that includes the DLC, but the release is a full price. Is the DLC good enough for that or should I just get the original game off some bargain bin? Thanks!

I haven't had the opportunity to do much active comparing between the PS3 and 360 versions, but near as I can tell, they're pretty similar if not identical. Might be wrong on this, but you're probably fine with either version.

Again, haven't had the opportunity to the play the DLC myself, but a friend of mine is constantly telling me that both Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony are almost like entirely new games because they're so brimming with content. To get both of those, plus the original GTA IV, seems like a great bargain to me.

I very briefly saw some GTA IV on my mate's PS3 and it looked pretty similar to my Xbox 360 version. But, yeah, it was very brief.

I haven't played any of the DLC for the game, so I can't help you on that. In fact, I, myself, am wondering about whether I should pick it up, so I may hang around in this thread for a little while to see what people think.

The system doesn't matter, despite what any raving fanboy will scream at you. The game is spectacular and the DLC's do indeed almost stand alone. The stories in all three scenarios are amazing and deep and filled with memorable characters.

Yusuf is my favorite. "We got Arab money!" /dances

1. It's about the same on the PS3. Though if you can/do have it on the 360, I suggest you go for that because those squishy L2/R2 buttons are a nightmare to drive with.
2. I haven't heard that, but the DLC is definitely worth picking up, as they're seriously about the same length as the original game and they have more stuff. Though I'm not sure how much the game is now and if the DLC is 15 dollars or 20 dollars, but it might be cheaper to buy it separate anyways. Definitely get the ballad of gay tony. The lost and the damned is cool if you like biker culture, but it's kind of meh otherwise.

Ok, a mistake from my part, when I saw the preorder box art of the PS3 edition of this, I automatically assumed that the disc includes the original GTA 4. It seems however that the disc is a standalone compilation of the DLC's, which does NOT require GTA 4 to play (now that's weird) and also includes some exclusive bonuses, like 3 new radio stations and some other stuff. So I guess it's a matter of whether the DLC's are worth getting in disc form with a few bonuses for 45$. For those interested, here is the link to the thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Episodes_From_Liberty_City

The pack has a release date of April 13 for PS3 and PC.

Word of advise:
At this point just get the "Episodes from Liberty City" disc coming out if you haven't played through gta4 yet. It has more cool guns and vehicles. The map however is exactly the same so it's not really worth having both the Episodes and the original.

I have a question regarding DLC, if my 2 friends and I purchase Episodes of Liberty City from a retailer. Can we still do free roam/ free play online with each other or will it only have the DLC multiplayer modes? Also, if we play from the disc, does that mean that there is only vehicles from the DLC in the game or are the old ones still there too? Are the weapons from the original in it too, or is it just the new ones?

Couldn't care less about not having the radio stations.

This is the only niggling concern stopping me form going out and buying it tomorrow, because I'd rather buy have the hard copy, but I'll buy it from PSN if it doesn't have the original weapons, cars, and multiplayer free roam.

So I can purchase Episodes From Liberty City and not need the original game? Because I really wanna play the DLC but haven't had a copy of the original game since I sold my 360 and got a PS3.

Yeah, that's right. I'm just trying to figure out if the original weapon/vehicles and multiplayer free roam are in it too

Yes, as long as you purchase the Episodes disc, you wont need the original gta4 game. If you want to download the episodes from psn, you will need the original gta4 disc.

The two DLCs for GTA4, I think, are actually better than GTA4 proper. Especially BoGT. You can replay any mission from BoGT after you finish the game. Imagine if that was in the freakin' GTA4 proper? All I'd do is replay the Bank mission.

Rockstar signed the deal with Microsoft for the DLC. Granted it's now made its way to the PC as well, but then again that's still Microsoft.
PS3 players may indeed be getting their own DLC for the game, but that's probably just fan speculation and hopefuls.

Overall I honestly couldn't tell the PS3 and Xbox 360 version apart, both visually and in terms of gameplay. Some people can rant and rave but personally one console controller is the same as the next to me, especially in this case.
Granted I think the PS3 version can handle more graphical/particle intensive moments with a happier frame-rate than standard 360's.

First bit is wrong: both the PS3 and the PC is getting the same DLC as the 360, and both in the same form (downloads for GTA IV and stand-alone retail disc).

To drive this thread off topic: Should I get Episodes for PC, wait untill it appears it appears in Steam's Rockstar Complete Pack (or Steam does a mad deal for it) or just not bother with it?

It IS the same DLC? Well that deal wasn't going to last forever.

If you've got a strong enough PC, yes you might want to get the episode pack for the PC. undoubtedly it will be on sale via Steam at some point.
Otherwise just sit back and enjoy it on your console of choice. At the present you can still download it, or indeed go out and purchase the two DLC's bundled onto the 'Episodes from Liberty City' disk. It came out before Christmas for Xbox owners, not sure if it's all the way onto the PS3 platform yet.

The PS3 has the GTA IV DLC now. The place were I rent most of my games has it for rent as well as the x-box 360 version.

The DLC is really fun and adds different weapons and characters to the already excellent GTA IV universe. I would have to say purchase the DLC.

Awesome, I'll go buy it as soon as my older brother gives me some money because we're going halves on it.
