GTA 6 is going to break the industry

So i watched this video last night about games that release into the market and drastically shatter the games industry in everything they do. Final Fantasy 7 came out and completely changed how stories were told in video games. Dark Souls game out and changed the world of action RPG's forever. The Witcher 3 came out and ruined open world games, Baldur's Gate 3 came out and showed the industry how wrong they were getting it.

The industry as a whole is pretty much a fucked up mess, like a bunch of giant snails trying to chase each other's tails but by the time they get to where their opponents are, the opponent is long gome. Overwatch for example exploded the lootbox and made it infest most if not all Love Service games for years, each one pushing the line until ultimately that line is crossed and Battlefront happens. Though in some circles lootboxes still thrive like in ultimate team games.

Despite this industry shaking games that sometimes come out and cause everyone else to rethink what they're doing. Nothing and no one has ever had an impact like GTA V. And with GTA 6 coming soon, the galactic meteoric destruction of the games industry is going to severely fuck with every single publisher on the planet. Some of these publishers are already in hot water for making the same mistakes over and over again (Ubisoft), and others are not exactly on steady ground. What the fuck does Activision make besides Call of Duty slop these days?

No matter how crazy some of the latest impactful games have been, nothing compares to what GTA will bring. GTA V came out in 2013, think of how different the game landscape was then. Since then GTA V got released on everything and sold more copies than any other video game by such an insane margin not even Pokemon comes close. Already publishers are gambling, frantically either trying to rush out their next game before GTA 6, or hold back and hope they can release long enough after GTA 6 that the dust will have settled.

GTA V still remains as one of the most actively played video games even today. When GTA 6 drops it's going to consume everyone. Every livestream, every gamesite, every gamer, will be completely invested in playing it.

The question will be, what will GTA 6 bring to the game landscape that will cause everyone to try and include into their own games? What mechanics, what revolutionary storytelling method, what change with it bring to the open world formula? That is the crazy thing about Rockstar, they don't miss. They don't release much, but they don't miss, and when Rockstar stands up to drop a new thing on the world, the entire industry stops and listens.

It could course correct the entire AAA ship if it plays things correctly. Or it can cause years of poor imitations that fail and cause more layoffs and shutdowns of studios. My guess is it will probably do both in some way or another. Let the bad studios fail and fade away and those that can adapt to make great games that people expect, let those succeed.

What impact do ya'll think GTA 6 is going to cause across the industry?

My assumption is that it will sell like hotcakes. My guess is that it will lead to investors thinking "Hey, there are some legs in games like this", more studios developing titles like that will get funding, and my hope is that it will lead to developers not losing their jobs.

Since Nintendo revealed the other day that they are planning to raise prices I suspect Rockstar will do the same thing.

Who gives a fuck? Regardless of what happens, there'll be plenty of different games for everyone to play. GTA ain't Some unstoppable entity from another dimension. It's just a game. I have no interest and its release won't stop companies like Capcom or Koei Tecmo. AA and indie will continue doing their own things as always. Those two did it before, during, and after V's release. People online are either overhyping themselves (for success/failure) or overworrying over nothing. I could not give a fuck about this game because it aint even on my list. And I'll be focused on other things away from the bullshit.

What revolutionary thing do Rockstar games actually do? Yeah, you can say they did revolutionize the open world/sandbox genre with GTA3, but you can't do that again. I don't recall any gameplay mechanic they really created or took to the next level or did better than anyone else. Their games gameplay-wise are usually a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. Mercenaries on PS2/Xbox is still more revolutionary from a gameplay/game design perspective than anything Rockstar has ever put out. Recently, Rockstar has been about just being high on quality and detail that not many studios have the luxury of prioritizing anyway so I don't expect any copying in that regard.

Also, isn't this the 1st GTA without the Housers really behind it? If so, it might be an imitation of what people like about GTA and there could be a big backlash, though it will obviously still sell massively.

Oh the freakout if this game is bad will be unlike any freakout we've ever seen, believe that.

It'll be big, but not that big. Big success, but not industry shattering. The industry is different now, open world game aren't that big anymore, a lot of people have never even played a GTA game because the last one come out before they really played game, large open world to screw around with your friend are pretty common nowaday.

I'm predicting something close to red dead redemption 2, big, but normal.

Then they can get over themselves and play something else, should it happen. There will still be some disappointment, regardless of quality, because those type of people always exist.

It will be a thing *everyone* will be talking about in some respect for a while after release, them consumed and dissected by the dedicated fans and YouTube crowd for weeks/months/years to follow, while most other people move on as always.

If and when I play it I’ll mostly just want to hijack a monster truck and rampage through whatever’s in my path after a tough day.

I haven't played Grand Theft Auto since the original top-down one and I don't expect that streak will end with this one.
Yeah, I played GTA2 and that was kinda it. Their games beyond that just didn't appeal. No idea what the appeal of them is.
The last GTA I ever played the completion was GTAIV. I played some V with my older brother, but he's the one that mainly completed the game. I mostly watched.

GTA2 has the best soundtrack as far as I'm concerned.

Not me. The game might as well not exist for me.

GTA 6 will drop for like $110.00, have a always online, have a subscription service, have all in game currencies and Skinner box tech at levels we could never imagine.

It's will make so much money we have to come up with a new name.

Then there will be me with my endless stack of classics, and purchases through our the year and keeping a pulse on the AA and Indie space looking at the madness and going..."I'm Good".
