GTA VI: London....my idea

Rockstar should just buy The Getaway franchise and make a third game out of that. Can you imagine how amazing that might be? I liked the original's story and feel. Now if Rockstar did it to the standard of its flagship titles, wow, that would be amazing. It already manages to have multiple interesting protagonists. Due to its style, it wouldn't just become GTA London, but a unique game of its own.

Of course, I'd want it to have some things such as car modification, apartments, etc. Maybe investment in properties. There could be lots of different side-missions, making it more like a series of typical British crime television.

I haven't played GTA V yet. I want to eventually and I'm sure I'll get around to it. Speaking as part of the American audience though, your GTA VI idea is awesome! That would be a day one purchase for me. Someone make this happen!

So Guy Ritchie: The Game? Yeah, I can dig it. Lord knows I could use more Brick Top, if only as an ancillary villain that you, in the GTA fashion, work under, inevitably get betrayed by, and then work your way up in the criminal underworld to defeat. Given the gun regulation in the UK though, perhaps it'd be best to follow the example of Sleeping Dogs and have an in depth melee system that focuses on hand-to-hand, melee weaponry, and environmental kills.

If there was a GTA london it would have to be set in the 70's a la the Sweeney.(but that probably wouldn't sell well.)

Not really sure about the 'stealing the crown jewels' idea. I know asking for sensibility in a GTA game is like complaining about the lack of realism in toy story, but it just sounds like a bad comedy set up or something. No offense.

In terms of guns, I can think of two main options of the top of my head: 1, They forget that the games set in Britain and return to every gang member and their mum having a fully automatic weapon in their pocket. or 2, They make guns (even pistols) a rarity, and make getting a assault rifle the equivalent to finding the wood of the true cross. I could see this working, though: Give the PC a really low health bar and make bullets do a lot of damage, and i can see even relatively small firefights with just pistols being quite challenging - god forbid when the well equipped armed response surrounds you.

I personally love the idea of stealing the crown jewels. Sure its over the top and its been done in pretty much every heist parody but its just over the top enough that i might work. If anything its gonna be huge climactic finale. Say perhaps you get in deep shit with a wealthy mobster who has a fascination with the royal family so you have no option but to steal the.

Why dont they just do guns the way i said in the OP. You have to buy them from an illegal vendor (ala little jacob) it makes perfect sense. Guns are probably more common than you think in the UK and they could implement it so only gang members and specialised police units carry firearms

It ain't happening. GTA, like another open-world I know (hello Fallout) relies way too much on America for it's humor and storylines (i.e. gang culture in the 90s, the recent economic depression, the death of the American dream, etc.)

It would just make no sense and GTA would lose a lot of what makes GTA, well, GTA if it were to travel outside of the US.

On your second point about Vice City, they could probably do a DC analogue for GTA VI, what with all the shutdowns and debt ceilings and whatnot.

Maybe they could at least try a different time period. Or maybe play as a lawman (good cop turning bad, undercover shenanigans) to get a different perspective. Their "small time crook rising up" story has been pretty well trodden now.

If it was to stay in america id like a full blown las venturas remake with the same heist mechanic as GTA V but this time focus mostly on heists (mainly casinos). Instead of working your way up you start with a decent team

American popular culture is so universal and its politics and social climate so well known which makes that GTA's Americana has a near global appeal. This would be much less in a different setting. Parody and satire is a difficult thing to do, especially when it comes to cultures which are more subdued. Which makes up a large part of GTA's thematic charm, its instantly recognizable satire.

Anyways I hope the next GTA will be set in some Mexican bordertown. With Mexico as a nearly failed state they could really ramp up the chaos. Espescially a fictional Texas would be awesome in a GTA setting. There could be a lot of narrative and gameplay possibilities that are really cool. It has the violence, the crime, the drugs and the machismo; now all it needs is the videogame. And there would be an awful lot to parody

I suppose you make a good point. The UKs culture is similar to what you described but america is very much a hyperbole of this culture. The parody would kind of be lost if it moved to the UK and heres why. When GTA was released american news outlets and certain influential groups (cough NRA cough) complain about GTA and just send a load of vitriolic hate towards it without even playing it or doing any research into its content. The funny thing is the more hate they give it the more GTAs parodies such as weasel news become true. Whereas in the UK the media responded very positively especially as rockstar has it roots in edinburgh (dundee to be more precise).

I like you idea of a mexican border city and what better city than a modern reimagining of blackwater. It love to see what 100 years of development has done since red dead redemption. Not only that but being able to go over the border would be cool and drug runs would be immense fun and what a way to lose a 5* wanted rating than to lay low south of the border (unless you were wanted there too)

Well you have to do something new all together not just swap the scenery.
I would actually make it a Lock Stock sort of affair, that movie had several scummy main characters doing very different thing eventually crossing paths to an epically strange conclusion, hell get Guy Ritchie to write the thing.

Also important note to devs, GTA isn't the only one that can do GTA like games, especially not that Saints Row has gone bat shit and GTA is depressingly serious you could get a breath of fresh ideas in any day.

I think everyone wants a "GTA: Their Home Town". I know I'd love one set around Dallas/Fort Worth's metroplex. But that's a pipe dream.

Much like topic creator, I'd like to see them move to some place different than the established fair. If not Texas, Chicago maybe. Or even better still, some place like Sydney or London like he originally said. At least with London, there is precedent since they had that expansion to the original game. And every 3D one has been set in a location originally created in the original game.

If they ever do revisit Vice City, they need to focus on the whole state. And I hope they have a parody of Burn Notice added in. And of course we'd need a mission contact that keeps putting on sunglasses before finishing his sentences (tee hee). I remember the radio stations in the PS2/Xbox version talking about different towns that the local sports teams were rivals with. They talked about their theme parks. Florida done in the style of GTA's California could be interesting.

Still, it doesn't change my mind too much though. I think that it is a lot more viable for them to do London now, but then again the more I think about it, that perspective and capture on America is unique enough to where it would be pretty difficult to capture anywhere else. Again, the whole American thing, Developer national origin aside, is too big to match, without trying to sound like a superior douche.
I'm all for it though. Would be really cool.

That would be the next logical step. The heists were no were near as big a part of the game or involved as the marketing hyped it up to be. Having a few different solutions to missions would be nice too. It odd that a sandbox game has quite linear missions.
