I just can't decide what to settle on to play now. They both have their strengths/weaknesses and I'm being my normal, indecisive self.

+ Better Art/Graphics
+ Better PvE structure
+ All the classes/races/sexes are pretty well represented and you wouldn't really be embarrassed for anyone to see them, but they can still look good
+ Story is more coherently told and more interesting because of it
- But as a result, character and armor designs suffer from a lot of blandness and sameness
- Not a ton to do at endgame
- Grind exists but not to the degree of other MMOs
- PvP is weaker

+ Better overall combat
+ Better PvE structure
+ Much more varied and interesting character designs + armor; a lot of stuff looks positively amazing
+ Better overall plot, but told like shite so its not as fun to follow
- Basically impossible to explain to anyone watching and embarrassing
- PvE content isn't it's strong suit
- Massive, tedious Korean MMO grind to get anything

While I have both games, I have, admittedly, played very little of TERA. This is because I have an older computer and TERA is apparently an eldritch invocation to the Lag Gods.

While both have some very lovely aesthetics, GW2 gets my vote based on one thing: the community. I played GW1 (it was my first MMORPG) and while I was able to find some good groups, that game could be solo'd easily by the end of it and it got very boring. Eventually, I moved into WoW and while I have some good memories of that, the community has become so toxic and the game such a grind that I can't justify spending the money on a subscription anymore. A friend of mine got me GW2 this past holiday season and I've had so much fun diving into the lore, testing out different classes, exploring and winding up running around with random people for hours at a time. It's almost funny since I'd had my eye on TERA and had been resistant to GW2 due to wariness about changes from the first game. But in TERA, it's hard to even get an answer to a basic question. Maybe it's just the realm/world/server, but it just didn't feel as though it was truly populated with other people. GW2 has people who will run across a map to resurrect you.

In the end, it's entirely up to you what you choose to play, what your tastes are, what your play style is, et cetera. But, as far as my opinion, I'd say GW2 is the way to go.

Tera looks better than Guild Wars, but it has other problems. The first one being the very repetitive leveling content. You will find yourself repeating carbon copies of quests every hub. However the combat is tight and you may find yourself having fun anyway because you are not locked to a combat bar.

The questing in Guild Wars is more dynamic....kinda. it really is the same kill X number of these things and fetch Y number of those things
But it is hidden by an interesting coat of paint. Problem here is that this is. A hot bar mmo. You'll be pressing numbers I'm a fairly standard rotation. With only 8 or 9 abilities to have active at once.

Personally I would try Tera first. Mostly because it is completely free to play. Guild wars you have to buy into first. So if you try Tera and love it, then you save fifty bucks or whatever GW2 and expansions cost now.

You don't have to buy GW first, the main "campaign" is free to play, you only have to pay for the expansion (and living world content) if you decide you want to buy it.

The cash shop in Tera EU is also fucking dire. US is ok though, so OP should be OK. Extra character slot in US is about ?5-7 in EU it's about ?20 (although obviously in dollars). GW character slots are about ?8 IIRC.
I didn't know GW2 was free to start up now.

As for the character slots in Tera. I would worry about liking the game first, than needed a third character slot. I've reached max level in Tera and never spent a dime nor did I feel pressured to pay for anything. Though I was tempted for some bunny armor.

I have both games; GW2 + HoT expansion and I have TERA Founder's edition (I bought it way back when it first came out). I'm just considering seriously picking them up now that WoW has finally gone and given up the ghost.

You are Paragon Fury. Get TERA.
Grind is not too big of a problem, as you can level quite fast right now. Basically only need to do Main Story Missions, a few instances and maybe, rarely, doing some grind missions.

Oh, and fuck GW2 for closing off story content after the next part came out, making it necessary to either grind or pay for it. Fuck that.

If you want jumping puzzles, GW2 is the way to go.

The only thing TERA has going for it is character design and combat. Story is...meh, to be honest. PvE content consists purely of 'go there, kill X, go back' and in dungeons 'run through and kill stuff' The graphics are a bit worse too, though they're pretty comparable.

GW2's armor customization is a lot better these days than at the start. Since you can wear outfits over your normal armour now. And to be honest, there's plenty of customization on normal armours too. It's just a bit less noticeable than in TERA especially at early levels. Plus the PvE is just...so much better. The dynamic events make it a lot of fun, especially if there are more players around. And the world bosses are pretty awesome. Better than in TERA, imo.

So yea, my vote goes out to GW2. Or heck, play GW2 first and TERA after that or even both at the same time. There's no rule stating you should only play one. :p

Id go Guild Wars 2, I've found tons to do in it and after I finished leveling in tera I just was unable to find anything to hold me so my lancer has remained untouched since.

What story content are you talking about? Season 2 of the living story?

It was when I played, possibly that, yes. I think I recall something about "Season 2". It was a desert area with thorns and stuff.
I paused for a bit, then wanted to do more story and was blocked off.

Oh, they did a weird unlock thing for season 2, if you logged in during the 2 weeks when it was up then it was unlocked for your account otherwise you had to buy the week you missed with gems. Although I think it was only like 100 gems per week or so.

Have you played the two games yet since I know GW2 is now f2p (not sure about Tera). Why not try f2p to get a feel of it althought I can't say it will provide the full thing to you due to f2p.

I've played both games to completion, and my preference of the two is TERA without hesitation. GW2 just felt okay at best. It didn't feel very social for an MMO and I didn't like how it scaled my character's level to match the zone I was in.

TERA has excellent combat, incredible graphics and aesthetics, and I love how unabashedly High Fantasy it is. It's the only fantasy MMO aside from WoW that I've enjoyed. Yes, the "armor" in the game isn't practical or realistic, but that's not why I play the game. My only gripe is that it's a bit grind-heavy, but that's to be expected in a Korean MMO.

In any case, GW2 and TERA are both F2P (except for GW2's expansion), so it's easy to try them yourself.

Wait...what does me being Paragon Fury have to do with TERA?
You have a reputation, let's just say. I mean, you do post frequently, and those topics tend to revolve around similar subjects and themes.

You're quite the celebrity 'round these parts.

Ergo I second TERA, but I know fuck all about MMOs. I liked GW2; played it for a month or so, but that was waaay back in the year it launched. I had a good amount of fun, even if I played by myself :p
