Guillermo del Toro Re-envisioning The Hulk for TV

Hellboy's director and Battlestar Galactica's producer are teaming up to bring an angry Bruce Banner to your television screen.

For his first foray into television, Guillermo del Toro has certainly picked something big (and green, and cranky); the acclaimed writer/director (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy) will now be responsible for bringing The Hulk to television. del Toro is partnering with Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick for the project, which -- as a result of Disney's recent acquisition of Marvel -- will air on ABC, the also-Disney-owned broadcast network.

Deadline is reporting that "the series will follow an origin story," following young ("mid-twenties") physicist Bruce Banner through his transformation into The Hulk. del Toro reportedly wants to use a combination of CGI (which has been the basis for the most recent film appearances), prosthetics, and puppetry to bring the green guy to the screen.

Script writing will fall to Eick, with del Toro directing (pending availability); both will serve as executive producers. Jeph Loeb and Joe Quesada of Marvel will also serve on the executive production team. (There are actually five executive producers, which fills me with oh so much confidence.) Current supposition is that the series will debut in fall of 2012, to ride the wave of the big-screen Avengers success (hopefully, oh please let it be good).

It will work as long as at the end Banner is walking down the road looking sadly over his shoulder while the piano music plays.

As long as Ang Lee isn't involved, this will be good.

Even though I don't really hate the Ang Lee version of Hulk (it almost worked), but that's not the point.

Don't make it Ang Lee. You wouldn't like it if it's Ang Lee.

You know what would be funny? If when the Hulk goes on a rampage a mysterious helicopter comes out of nowhere and drops Wolverine square on top of him. It was Wolverine's first comic appearance after all, so it would work very well to show him fighting the Hulk.

Everything Del Toro touches turns to gold, so I think I'm going to have to put my dislike for the Hulk aside and give this a shot.

This is best thing I've read all day. I love you for this.

I love everything that comes out of Del Toro head, so I'll loyally watch several episodes if not the whole first season.
