Hackers Attack YouTube

Not everyone spent the Fourth of July weekend kicking back and enjoying themselves.

Some people have very strange ideas about "fun". Rather than spend the Fourth of July weekend with friends, fireworks and possibly some tasty beverages, some people decided that their time was best spent messing with Justin Bieber fans.

YouTube came under attack, as hackers took advantage of a scripting flaw in the website. Anyone trying to watch a Justin Bieber video encountered blacked-out pages, fake messages saying that Bieber had died in a car crash, or shock pornography. YouTube disabled comments for two hours while it fixed the problem.

"We took swift action to fix a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability on youtube.com that was discovered several hours ago," wrote Google in a statement to TNW [http://thenextweb.com/socialmedia/2010/07/04/youtube-hacked-justin-bieber-videos-targeted/]. "We took swift action to fix a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability on youtube.com that was discovered several hours ago. Comments were temporarily hidden by default within an hour, and we released a complete fix for the issue in about two hours. We're continuing to study the vulnerability to help prevent similar issues in the future."

4Chan was apparently responsible for the attacks, with one poster saying that it was a reminder that its members could "still shake the foundation of the internet."

Ebaum's world is the culprit behind this!

The dying in a car crash thing was quite creative, at least it wasnt just porn this time around, unlike the last youtube hack.

Haha, although the hacking was in poor taste, I still find it rather amusing, considering the subject of the attack, and the fact that some hacker somewhere spent so much time messing with Bieber fans.
Also, you repeat your quote twice in the second to last paragraph.

"still shake the foundation of the internet."
Uh-huh. Does your life lack such meaning that you need to shake up something that exists as 1s and 0s?
I've never been able to grasp the reason why people do this, it just seems juvenile and ridiculously stupid.

"Shake the foundation of the internet"....?

Really?

Dude, you messed with a Youtube video on a holiday where you should have been out partying with friends.

Congrats on your mediocrity.

Glad most of you find tricking young girls into watching hardcore pornography to be funny.

The other stuff is fairly hilarious, but that is just a bit too far.

And I'm glad to see 4chan seems to think youtube is 'the foundation of the internet'... right.

Well at least they're attacking something that partially deserves it, saw some of the posts and responses, and some are a quite amusing. But I shall say this once only, STAY OUT OF CAMBERWICK GREEN!

Gee 4chan did it. Now there's a shocker. /sarcasm.
You know, someone with considerable hacking skills should take that site down a peg or two.
