So, this happened.
It's surprising because the US probably WEREN'T behind it... as that's the norm
We know this because this is the president they installed and I don't think they pissed the US (as far as I'm aware) so they had to act against them.

If the people of Haiti did this, good on them. I imagine the United States will swoop in to take advantage, however.

What an odd disguise for them to take. Why would a security detail admit the DEA, of all agencies, to see the president of a country?

The Haitian government works with the DEA.
I would expect that yeah as they're an American country, but I really can't imagine the DEA showing up to my president's private residence for whatever reason and being allowed to see him. Though I wouldn't mind if he got whacked.

The Haitian president was a US puppet. It’s honestly pretty smart as far as disguises go, most other agencies are either more professional or more subtle, but the DEA would do a random meeting with a team of armed agents/assets.

Just to be clear, the Americans have driven coups in Haiti on multiple occasions and strictly enforce their will upon the people. It's generally worse than most South American countries. It's weird this time because it's usually the Americans doing the assassinating.

“Generally worse” is a dramatic understatement. Haiti is the symbol of Liberal Capitalism’s greatest sins, a land ravaged by the absolute worst of slavery and imperialism made to suffer perpetually for freeing itself rather than waiting to be freed by some class of white betters, as you can’t write off the losses incurred in a slave revolt the same way as when the government pays you to free your slaves.

Even though you wouldn't hear much about it on CNN, it's possible that the United States was embarrassed of his heavy-handed approach to dealing with the uprisings and protests. Or that there was something else they didn't like, even though they propped him up.

What kind of Colombian military? School of the Americas mostly trains officers, not enlisted.

US media is complicit
I know if doesn't undermine the point of the media picking and choosing what stories are to their benefit, but I love that you posted a twitter video with a bunch of people complaining about someone keeping power past their term limit, after previously telling me that term limits are undemocratic and shouldn't exist anyway (if a socialist is in power).

The worst thing that the US did was pretend to give the Philippines autonomy in '35 as a buffer, or rather sacrificial lamb, against the Japan. Then made sure they couldn't defend themselves without the US help. And then, to take the country back, they destroyed a bunch of civilian houses because, you know, why would you send troops in when you can just bomb the populace, irrelevant of their friend or foe status. They sure aren't as valuable as American lives. A quarter of a million dead just to say some soldiers.

Fuck FDR and Curtain

The Philippines had zero chance of successfully defending themselves from the Japanese in WW2 without US help.

Let's bear in mind the Japanese took over a huge chunk of of China, defeated the USA in the Philippines, and blasted the UK and Netherlands out of a large chunk of SE Asia. All of them were much more substantial opponents than a Philippine home army would have been.

Bolivia holds election, socialist wins

Haiti fails to hold election, right-wing president rules by decree

You: It's the same picture

You skipped the step where Bolivia had a direct democratic referendum on whether to extend term limits for Morales, and the answer was no, so he coerced the courts to declare the constitution illegal so he could run anyway.
