How're you celebrating our treason to the crown? Don't worry non-Americans, today you're an American too.

July 4 is the day we in the United States celebrate the existence of fireworks. It has no other significance whatsoever.

I homemade a pizza and played Pathfinder:Kingmaker all afternoon. Later I went for a walk alongside the forest after the sun set, which is typically peaceful but all the bangs n' booms n' whatnot kind of ruined that. I'm probably gonna play Kingmaker a bit more before knocking out.

Pretty much. There's a local guy who's pretty obnoxious about it though. He has a bunch of massive flags he leans against his fence and lights fireworks from morning 'till night. I always get a kick out of those flags though. You have the typical American flag sure, but then next to it is a "Don't Tread on Me" flag, a "Thin Blue-line" flag, and my personal favorite, an "Operation Iraqi Freedom" flag. The first time I saw that one, I burst out laughing in disbelief and he got really pissed at me for it. Good times.

Did Trump finally get that big military parade he wanted, with battle tanks and fighter jets, and Air Force One doing a flyover of the Mall?

Genuine question btw. Cuz I can't be arsed to look it up myself.

I am not sure if it was smaller than expected due to rain or just poor planning but from everything I have seen, it actually looked smaller than our local veteran's day parade and air show here at the armory and park. The tanks were stationery, not on parade, their floats were nothing big, my local high school floats were actually more professional looking that what I saw there and the school's bands and drill teams that were present did not look like they would even make state.. It was pretty sloppy compared to even our state fair and homecoming parades tbh. The military bands and rifle teams looked good but that is to be expected. From everything I have seen thus far, It didn't really look like much of a military parade even though he likely spent a fortune on it. This is what most people remember:

Trump behind his rain soaked bullet proof glass.

EDIT: After further investigation it turns out it wasn't the rain, it was his engineers, military and poor planning:
Donald Trump had wanted these war machines to rumble through the rarefied streets of the nation?s capital until he was thwarted by engineers.

Send a fleet of these 60-ton monsters over the bridge from Arlington National Cemetery, they said, and it could crumble into the Potomac River.

Plan B: they were plopped into static positions outside the Lincoln Memorial after being delivered by train at an estimated cost of around $750,000.
He?d been inspired by France?s nationalism-soaked Bastille Day celebrations - a day during which a nation usually queasy about military might throws its arms around the troops - during a trip in 2017.

And this could all have been a blockbuster Hollywood remake of a European classic - if he?d gotten his own way. Instead, after reported resistance to a full-scale military showcase from senior aides, this felt at times like a straight-to-DVD version of a Red Square parade.

There were no legions of troops, no tanks rolling down the Mall, and some of the war machines that did end up on display - like the M4 Sherman - last appeared on the battlefield for the US in the 1950s.

If he had properly planned this well in advance as most event organizers do, he would have had the best bands and dance teams in the nation, extravagant floats made from every state, amazing gymnasts and more and not even have to pay for much of it as communities voluntarily make these things for local parades as well, but that would actually mean Trump be capable of thinking ahead and wanting to produce a quality event instead of his usual fake cardboard and foam inauguration cake because he half asses everything he does in life.

Ah, so in short: big talk, anemic results. Sounds about right.

Maybe. Infrastructure built on swamps tends to not handle 60 ton tanks very well.

Ya know it is sad that I could have planned a better parade than this and I am not even an event organizer.

I would have contacted the governors in all 50 states and asked for them to send a float, band and dance team representing their state. I would have contacted heads of the national organizations for the different ethnic cultural historical groups and asked if they would want to have participants representing all the cultures that make up this nation sharing traditional songs, dress and dances to participate and even if I did nothing else, that would have made for a much better parade already than the crap they had.

Even the 4th of July reflects America's situation.

That would have made the parade all inclusive for America, not a celebration of the Divine Eternal Emperor, Anointed by God, Donald Trump.
Everything about that parade was designed to stroke Trump's fragile ego and make him feel like an all-conquering warrior-king.

Apparently the Pentagon was fighting back against all of this, so in a way yes. However this was always doomed to fail. The tanks were never going to be driving around as they'd destroy the damn streets doing so. And this administration has been a badly organized mess from the get go, so of coarse everything else would go wrong. The pouring rain was a nice touch too.

The best bit was that the vast majority of people didn't get to see the tanks or any of the main events. It was all gated off for Trump's VIPs. Hell, the weather prevented them from even seeing the fireworks in some parts of town. They were all kind of just standing in the rain in support of someone who couldn't give less of a shit about them.

There were a bunch of protesters there too. Some flag burning happened and some clashes occurred. Naturally the only people the police were protecting were the Proud Boys. They even got their own little police escort as they walked about being obnoxious. My favorite bit being footage of one of them tipping his hat at the women he walked by because he's a big fucking dork.

Glad that the 4th of July is over, even if just for a day, it felt disgusting being an American under Trump.

I guess that explains my migraine since last night.

George Washington seems to be an even more amazing guy than people give him credit for. The man was so talented he was able to take over airports centuries before they were invented! What a guy!
