Let the record show that you heard it from me first [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.323236-Doctor-Who-is-getting-a-big-screen-adaptation-Yes-for-real-this-time#13238754].

But in all seriousness, here are my thoughts:

1. David Yates is a great director. Even if you didn't like his work on the Harry Potter movies, State of Play and Sex Traffic are brilliant.

2. Phrases like "starting from scratch" and "fresh new take" probably just mean "Origin Story?." And before you get upset about THAT, may I remind you that the Doctor was already 400 years old by the time the show even began? So they have a fair bit of wiggle room. And any continuity gaffes will get straightened out by the Time War (just like all the continuity errors that the show itself had been accumulating all on its own).

3. After the crushing disappointment of this past season's finalé, I'm more than ready for a fresh new take on the material.

4. Any chance of getting Neil Gaiman to write?

Yeah, if its not following continuity then I have lost all interest. The Doctor is on his twelfth regeneration (counting the two used during Tennant's tenure) so its not like they can use the previous ones.

All the fans will cry foul for ignoring continuity and when the movie bombs, Yates will ask why everyone hated it.
