Has anyone ever maxed out the amount of possible Souls earned on Dark Souls?

I ask because I'm in this little area, where with my weapons upgraded I can basically keep farming souls with little difficulty... that even if I were to die, I could easily retrieve them.

So... has anyone collected that much souls?

after a quick google search I found this http://darksouls.wikidot.com/soul-level which suggests that people have reached max level since they know how many souls it is

EDIT: but maybe not since it is 1,704,000,000 souls, so figure out how many souls you can get from about an hour of farming and that should give you an idea of if it is doable

There are hacks to obtain fantastic amounts of souls, it would be possible without actually farming it. I was pvping one day and there was this asshole cheater with lightining-fast zwei who gave me 100k souls with each hit. Ended up with something like 16 million souls in a 2 minute fight.

After that I had to suicide to lose them, btw.

I remember the max soul level is something around 750 or so, to have 99 in each stat. I've gotten nowhere close to that though, with my highest level only being in the early hundreds, and that was nearly 80 hours on that character. I can't imagine how long it would take to legitimately get those souls if that 1.7 billion number someone else said is correct, that's just massive. You would eventually need entire playthroughs for a single level, and then it'd just get worse from there.

I remember there being a couple of really good spots to grind for souls though, with the forest covenant area being really profitable early in the game thanks to their dumb AI being so willing to jump off a cliff if you're standing in the right spot. Farming for twinkling titanite saw was pretty rewarding too where you fight Seath. An easy 8k souls for about a minutes work, and then you can throw your extra purge stones to the snake guy.

You can get 99 in each stat which is completely pointless since putting points in it would have stop doing anything long before then. You could theoretically do it without cheats but you either need to be completing the entire game over and over again without losing any souls or do a lot of farming. If you just want to max out your character get 50 or 60 in each stat.

It's actually 709-713, depending on what class you start with. :[]

I'm sure someone has reached the soul cap. Wouldn't be surprised if it's been met several times, actually.

I'm not sure what I could add to this...the mods sure love to enforce their "low content" nonsense on posts that don't require especially large answers.

The possibility of reaching the cap is somewhat debatable. In the absolute sense, the game will let you keep gaining souls but given the best soul farming methods I know of will generate perhaps 200,000 - 300,000 souls in an hour it would be a Sisyphean task. This becomes especially true when you consider that you gain relatively little after certain cap points. After 40 points of dexterity, you've already gotten ~ 80% of the bonus you'll ever net and the difference between a well built character of 100th level and one of the 700th is simple fractional improvements.

As an example, I can use the black knight halberd to deliver more than 800 damage in a swing with 32 strength and 18 dex. Going to 99 strength and 18 dex nets me less than a hundred more damage (though, admittedly, that weapon has terrible scaling).
