Has there ever been a game directly based off of a book?

Hahahaha, I'm surprised anyone else even remembers this game. I loved it at the time.

"I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" was based on a short story of the same name, written by Harlan Ellison.

More based on a setting than a specific book, although eventually novelized as Krondor: the Betrayal.

Read the full OP, you idiot.
That's completely uncalled for and only makes you look arrogant and rude. I mean, he wasn't out to hurt you, and if it were a matter of "first post!" then he would have been banned long ago. It was a mistake. But we're human. That's what we do.

Remembered another one, there's a game based on the book "Hard to be a God" written by some Russian brothers.

Theres a new Dante's Inferno game in production.
It looks like.. ugh. I actually liked Divine Comedy too...
Dante must be turning in his grave..

It could have been good, if they didn't decide to cater for Stupids, as per usual. I know it hasn't been released, but it already has the pervasive stench of bad-ass lingering around it.
I wonder if you'll get to fight the She-Wolf of Incontinence..I dread to think...

Well, if you're being strict, things like Betrayal at Krondor and discwolrd don't count since they are based of settings rather than a specific book.

The obvious thing I would have thought of was bible games like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible_Adventures but that again depends on interpretation.

I think the problem is that books tend to have more dialogue and general moving the plot along whereas video games have to be more interactive. The two different types of storytelling don't tend to mesh well often.

Well, the old Neverwinter Nights games were based on books. Icewind Dale was damn good, too...

Betrayal at Krondor was one of the earliest Novel to PC translations, and the game for those who remember it, was actually quite close to the novel.

Also any game from the Icewind Dale PC saga, would also count.
