OT:

Never really been a fan of her videos, and this one is no different.

While some of the choreography is quite nice, the fact that its practically porn is a bit of a turn off for me.

My personal opinion is that if you can't make a music video without over-saturating it with sex, don't bother calling it music video at all, call it what it is, softcore porn set to music.
You're taking a really narrow (and prude) view of what creative expression can be. There's nothing wrong with a video with lots of sexuality and there's nothing wrong with a video with none at all. They're just different.

I think she's going to both piss off a lot of close-minded people and make a lot of fun people happy :)
This is why I hate this crap. People are like "Oh, if you don't like simplistic and shallow yet pop music then you're not fun or happy"

Hey, fuck you guys. We have different tastes than you, and suddenly we're all stick-in-the-mud grey people? We don't expect you to like our music, don't act like we should enjoy yours.
It's funny you only singled me out for my tongue-in-cheek comment yet passed over the dozens of flame posts of other users here attacking people who like Lady Gaga (or in general, music that is popular). Why is that?

That was actually pretty tame. Seemed like really safe grounds for a pop song, with a seemingly unconnected video...

Fine if you like it, I'm just not sure how it passes for weird, not when we've had Marilyn Manson dressing up as a Nazi, making sexual videos and making similiar vague nods to religion since the mid 90's. The music managed to be somewhat inkeeping with the tone of the videos when they were doing it too.

Ignore me...I'm really not the target audience.

1 Big resounding Ehhhhhhh. I thought it was boring and repetitive.
All music is boring and repetitive, particularly stuff that falls outside of art music. With the exception of Philip Glass/Steve Reich/Terry Riley, art music's just usually boring ;)

Her music reminds me of a joke David Cross made by quoting george bush saying "the terrorists hate our freedom" then watching the simple life and thinking "i hate our freedom, this is what we did with it? we are fucking assholes!"

I think this every time i see/hear lady gaga.

Gaga is the vanguard of a new way of conceiving music, mostly I listen to Emperor, Burzum, or even the classics like (my fav) Rolling Stones and Alice Cooper. Still, I can't help but feel like Lady gaga is the future, the girl is furious, I downright love her, she's the new generation of rock, she has the spirit of rock within her; and now ok little kids, complain as much as you will, but rock n' roll is first and foremost MERCHANDISE, it's all about the looks and the attitude, and the girl has all those requisites ;)

....

Okay.. fuck it. I give up on society.
If anyone needs me, I'll be moving my stuff into a log cabin in the mountains.
With an attitude like that, I'm sure you'll be missed :p

There was once this episode of Daria. In it some "artist" had created a new "masterpiece" by taking a bunch of spears, and jamming paper plates onto them.
He then started describing random bullshit and the people admiring his "art" marveled at his "genius".

That is the level of Lady Gaga's "music". Taking random things, mashing them together and pretending they mean something deep. All the while the fans buy the bullshit being shoveled into their faces.

"Gaga is the vanguard of a new way of conceiving music..."
"Lady Gaga is the future..."
"she's the new generation of rock..."
If that shit doesn't depress you, there's something VERY wrong with you.
I guess it's because I've spent time in third world countries that having people get excited about popular music, particularly fantastically designed pop music like Lady Gaga's, doesn't really depress me (like they have been doing for the last century or so). I guess I'm just made out of tougher stuff.

Also I listen to an incredibly wide variety of music that I don't ever see pop music as encroaching or threatening music in any possible way. I guess most people here have really narrow music tastes.

As usual, her music sounds like all other pop does to me. Boring.

That, and she's so blatantly sexual it's actually a turn off for me.

The video is great, not her most entertaining, but great. The cinematography was fantastic, and this video gives her library great depth after her previous music videos.

Lady Gaga has a very large spread of fans. It is a very bizarre and amazing thing, because obviously she is a total dance-pop singer, however, her odd harmonies, interesting rhythms, and over-the-top nature manages to connect very well with a lot of metal fans (especially more harmonic metal fans, less death metal fans), R&B fans, and Techno/Dance fans.

It is a very strange and awesome thing. And the craziest thing is, is that Lady Gaga is not at the top of her popularity yet. As this forum shows, she is still becoming increasingly popular.

Also, of strong note: Lady Gaga, an advocate for the power of individuality, is the EXACT opposite of Eminem, an advocate for the power of conformity and coming together due to existential frustration and rage against those in charge. It really shows the change of the times from 2000 to 2010.

I'm not really sure what the song has to do with fetish-nuns, cyberpunk nazi oompa loompas, and dancing....or anything for that matter...Also, who rhymes Alejandro with Fernando and Roberto?

There is nothing wrong with people getting excited.
There is something wrong with people trying to make geniuses out of people that aren't.
And yet, you haven't proven in any way that Lady Gaga isn't a genius. You're not doing your argument a lot of justice here.

I don't have a problem with you liking that shit. Your tastes are terrible, imo, but they're yours. You have a right to them.
Hah, as if Lady Gaga singularly represents my tastes. I guess it makes it easier for you since you most likely haven't heard of the genres, let alone the artists, that make up my favorite artists.

For starters, check out Karsh Kale, Steve Reich, Stravinsky, John McLaughlin, Michael Brook, and Vieux Farka Toure. I think you'll find that just because someone enjoys Lady Gaga and thinks she's a genius doesn't mean that they only listen to modern pop music.

I DO have a problem when someone says those things I have in quotes(" "). It causes me to question the person's sanity and frankly, their intelligence.

Also, that "I've spent time in third world countries" bullshit. Seriously, wtf? How the fuck does that have any point aside from trying to puff yourself up?
You're the one who is asking me if I get depressed from hearing people say things I disagree with about pop music of all things. So maybe you should be asking yourself why you're asking such ridiculous questions :)

And if you really think you should run away from civilization and live in a cabin because of pop music, I don't think you should be questioning anyone's sanity or intelligence.

The ending of this video will give me nightmares.

Anyway... A lot of the time i can respect when somebody writes a song well by their genre's standards even if i don't like the genre, but i always felt this song was sub-par even among other hits in the club/dance craze. When i first heard it, i assumed it was like a B-track or something: repetitive, unsubstantial, without any particularly catchy hook. Give me Ke$ha over this song any day (oh, wow, that hurt to say.)

The video alone, though, isn't exactly terrible. I may not understand it, but at least the themes and design are consistent (What can i say, i'm a sucker for gunboobs and leathernuns). Maybe if the video had actually been in any way related to the song, it could have been something decent.

Oh, and waiting 2 minutes for the song to even start? ...wtf Lady Gaga.
