Have you heard of a gag dubbed JRPG?

Sometimes in the anime industry, when a distributor picks up a title that would usually have no potential in the west, they write a new, comedic script for the dub in a similar style to an abriged series. See Samurai Pizza Cats, Ghost Stories, Duel Masters, Shin Chan, and even Sgt. Frog to an extent. However, have you ever seen a JRPG recived such treatment. I always thought Atlus could pick up one of those throwaway Otaku RPG's and localize it as a straight up pardoy.

Chaos Wars.

What's that? That was a serious dub?

Well, that just makes it funnier.

OT: Never seen anything of that sort, but more anime and JRPGs need dubs like that. It can help make the stories more enjoyable and feel less generic.

I'd like someone to take an Idea Factory game and give it the Ghost Stories treatment.

So, a game version of MXC? Yeah, that could work, but I think it would require much more work... I mean, with a TV show, you can edit and re-cut things very easily. Games, not so much.

It's so hard not to make a snide comment. All English JRPG dubs are so awful, it'd be too easy to say:
"Yeah, the whole `Tales of` series".
"Any Final Fantasy since FFIX".
"I'm pretty sure Fire Emblem Awakening's dub was a joke that went too far".

And so on.

I think FFV has a gag translation. I'm not sure, I really have only a faint knowledge of having read or been told something...

It's not a JRPG, but indie platformer Iji has a "scrambler" mode as an unlockable bonus. It's not a dub, but it does change most of the text in the game to be quite silly. For example:

Can we please not make this a Dub vs. Sub thread.
On topic. I'm pretty sure it can be done, finding a game however to do it with might be difficult.

It doesn't have to be edited, It can be like Ghost Stories, where the entire game is uncut, but the japanese script is thrown out the window and replaced with improvised verbal humor.

Honestly, if there's anybody qualified to give a JRPG the Samurai Pizza Cats treatment, it would be Nintendo's Treehouse team. They already proved themselves with Kid Icarus: Uprising, and the Mario & Luigi series. Imagine what they're capable of if they throw out a JRPG script, and made up their own twisted localization.

Barlkey Shut Up And Jam! Gaiden: Chapter I of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa has an "al bhed" language option. It may or may not improve the plot's coherency.

Now I'm in the mood to get back in the battle zone... DUEL MASTERS! (The battle's on! *moo*)

OT: I feel like any NIS-related game could get that kind of treatment, anyway... I mean, the Hyperdimension Neptunia series is already a video game parody in concept, alone...

Also, I think it should extend to other Japanese-based games... because why the fuck not...
