Has anyone here played Indigo Prophecy? Seriously? This game should be no surprise if you have ever played it. It's an interesting experience.

Urgh. Seriously, how much of this isn't fanboy talk?

I get the fact the QTE's span into a big, huge sprawling storyline... but they're still all QTE's. And therefore, I can't consider this a game.
Fanboy? Really now? You're just going to claim fanboyism so you don't have to justify anything? At least put up a counter argument instead of going "FANBOY" and run to the bushes.

All I've posted is my opinion, nothing more nothing less. I disagree with you, so I provide an opinion on your opinion. It's sad how a veteran user of the Escapist (I assume by your join date and post count) is using the "fanboy!" argument.

I don't really get why this can't be a "game". Guitar Hero is nothing but QTE's, though they mask it up pretty well I admit. It's a lot like how Disney critics claimed that "animation can't be a movie, nobody wants to sit for an hour to watch cartoons!" (sorry, doing a report on Walt Disney, popped to mind). Who says what can and can't be a game?

You have your opinion, I have mine, but at least have the decency not to belittle my opinion by saying I'm a "fanboy".

OKay, seriously. Heavy Rain is either going to be revolutionizing or the biggest failure of the decade, and it's only 2010. Who really wants to press a button, watch 20 seconds of animation, press another button, watch 10 seconds another animation etc.?

And when David Cage said Heavy Rain is "not porn"... blah. If he wanted to make a cinematic experience, he should at least had some decent camera work in the bit where the woman dries herself with the towel. That booby-shot was absolutely gratuituous.
*NOTE: All links NSFW*

Gratuitous? No sir, that is hardly gratuitous, these [http://l.yimg.com/jh/content/p/6/828015/dead-or-alive-xtreme-2-review-20061113061115288_screen001.jpg] are [http://www.ps3vault.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/deadoralive.jpg] gratuitious [http://www.wallpaperez.net/wallpaper/games/Dead-or-Alive-4-DOA-girls-810.jpg] boobies [http://www.everyday-gamer.net/images/ivy_soul_calibur_iv.jpg] giggity [http://static.gamesradar.com/images/mb/GamesRadar/us/Other/Features/2008/Sexy%20fan%20art/Soul%20Calibur/Soul_Calibur_4_Cassandra_by_Jayun--article_image.jpg].

Guess what, breasts are natural. Problem is most breasts in games are held up by invisible iron-bras, enforced steel implants, and jiggle around more than a giggling school-girl on crack. In this scene, you don't even have to do anything. You could just walk in and out of the bathroom and the scene would probably proceed. You don't need to take a shower or undress, the boobs are never in your face, and you never have to see them. If they were shoved in your face or if the showering was forced upon you to see "LOOK, BOOBIES!" then yes, it would be gratuitous. But really, if we're comparing something like this [http://static.gamesradar.com/images/mb//GamesRadar/us/Games/D/Devil%20May%20Cry%204/Everything%20Else/ART/Finished/lady_obs--screenshot_large.jpg] to what is basically showing breasts like this [http://www.crystalinks.com/venusadonis.jpg] then we really need to grow up. (not comparing Art to Heavy Rain, that remains to be seen, but hopefully you get my point)

Game just looks like a series of QTEs in one big uncanny valley. Still, could be exciting to play, for what there is in the game that counts as gameplay.

You can tell it is just a game because girls don't pee.

They just walk into the bathroom, stretch a bit, and walk out.

Do not question my beliefs! This MUST be true.
Why... yes, certainly. Nothing to worry about.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll call ahead and arrange an appointment with you psychiatrist for the day after Heavy Rain gets released. Why, you ask? Oh, no reason... >.>

So from what I?ve see from videos old and new of this game it is kind of like Indigo Prophesy with better graphics. Soon they?ll start saying you can control how sane your character is by performing simple actions like playing the guitar or going to work... This game absolutely intrigues me but I get the feeling that it might be a little to close to Indigo Prophesy. If you don?t know what Indigo Prophesy is, there are most likely videos of it on YouTube.com, and when you watch some Indigo Prophesy and Heavy Rain videos together and don?t think they look similar please feel free to tell me off.

A small note to those of you mentioning that she didn't wash her hands, or only stayed in the shower for 10 seconds: You obviously don't know a thing about Heavy Rain and you aren't being clever.

You were not watching a cutscene. Repeat that as much as neccessary to yourself. The player was controlling everything that happened there. It was the player that decided to only remain in the shower for 10 seconds and it was the player that decided to not wash up. You could probably remain in the shower for 10 minutes if you wanted to, and there may have even been motions to shampoo and conditioner and whatever that just hadn't been shown yet. You were not watching a cutscene.

This of course doesn't mean you should have an epiphany and suddenly like the game. I'm fairly confident that the sales for Heavy Rain are going to be fairly small, and I'm looking forward to this game more than any one I've met anywhere.

I bet this will be Yahtzee's GOTY will the entire scene being a sequence of quick time events. Im alright with the occasional quick time event but this is just over the top. No thanks.
I can see why some people would be interested in the premise of the game
and while I don't always agree with Yahtzee, the whole quick time thing seems like it could be a nightmare to "play"...

BUT alas I shall not pass judgement until giving it a shot
maybe my friend can download the demo if there is one...

First of all, Yahtzee has said that quick time events are best used when made a core part of the gameplay and when you can plausibly get through them on the first try.

In Heavy Rain the QTEs are implemented quite well. Making one or two mistakes doesn't necessarily result in character death, it just changes the way the sequence plays out. And even if the character does die there is no game over, no retries, and no continues. The story continues on without the character in question.

Heavy Rain is unique in that the game NEVER requires you to repeat something.

And you can say what you want about Heavy Rain, but accusing it of having bad graphics is just plain stupid. The visuals in this game are top notch and I think it's safe to say that anyone who says otherwise is either biased and/or fits firmly in the minority.

I also think the whole uncanny valley thing is way overblown. In order for the uncanny valley effect to happen the person has TO ACTUALLY BE BOTHERED. What bothers one person may not bother another person at all. So the uncanny valley effect is overblown because it depends entirely on the person's reaction. Or in other words it's highly subjective.

I wonder how many xbox fans are trolling on this thread, once again determined to trash any and all PS3 exclusives, no matter what they are, simply because they're PS3 exclusives.

I'm a PS3 fan but you don't see me doing that to Mass Effect 2. I haven't played the game but I freely and openly concede that it's looking good. I also recognize some potential pitfalls for Alan Wake but I also concede that it could still be a good game if it gets it's presentation and execution right.

Oh and I also think this is relevant to this thread:

Very good video, I agree with him 100%. I hate it when people always go around screaming "IT'S THE GAME PART OF GAMEPLAY!" No, it's not always that. Games can be more than just GAMEplay, and hopefully, Heavy Rain can show that.

I was intrigued by the video and the character animations are top notch. The realism of even the mundane actions is just so high and there are lots of subtleties that are typically left out of games, either to save on space or cost. However, all of that kind of fell apart during the shower scene with the bare breasts that seem to have left untouched by the animators. I wasn't feeling the uncanny valley until she took her top off and saw that they decided to just make them things that protrude out of the chest. I hate to break it to the design team but boobs are not rocks.

I wish I had a PS3.....

This game looks really good

EDIT: Also I wonder what would happen if you just didn't put your clothes back on
Nude female wrestling match perhaps. Also I couldn't help notice she didn't wash her hands after using the bathroom.
That was quite rude.
In addition to giving bathroom perverts a nice simulator, they fail to encourage proper sanitation habits.
The *ahem* conveniently placed censorship was tasteful though...no virtual vaggers for me.

Fantastic home invasion scene though.
Yahtzee and the world might finally have their first game with well-integrated quicktime events.
Also loved how the dev's weren't lying about having options: I noticed how, even if you failed one quicktime press, it wasn't an immediate Game Over-> Load Saved Game, the game just smoothly moves on and puts you into a resulting scenario to get out of.

The dramatic music over the whole sequence was great...I have to admit it got my pulse pounding.
The orchestral work during her nudie debut not so much...you don't have to make cheap sexploitation emotional.

Hooray for unintentional comedy. "Oh shit the milk is gonna spoil!" I'll get this game just to laugh at how cheesy it is.
Edit; Did anyone else find it odd that her apartment had locker room style shower?
Also this studios next project. A Clockwork Orange:the game. That is all.

Lack of accurate tit animation aside, cheers to this game for introducing:

1) Characters that actually wash themselves. Imagine the smell on Super Mario after all that running and jumping.
2) Characters that need to hit the can. Is there an option for number 2 while you're on there? What about grabbing a magazine to read?
3) Apartments that are, in fact, full of improvised weapons instead of static shit that just impedes movement

She did have some pretty good moves, too. Assuming she's an American girl, where's her gun? For that matter, where are the 6 roommates she needs in order to afford that bigass apartment?

At least this game actually allows me to participate in the fights. Capcom got into this jerk-ass habit with DMC and Bayonetta of making fights you can watch, but not play (which is the point of those games). At least heavy Rain will let me stick a fork in some asshole's face, something I'd do in real life to anyone who'd break into my home and try to knife me.
