Which one worked for you?
If i am going to have to test - and - return, which store should i use?
The trap needs to catch lots of mosquitoes and be near my face. In fact it would be best if mosquitoes were redirected from my face to the trap.

Would there be a better forum to ask this at?

All the mosquitoes in Florida are grown at allapattah flats. Visit at sunset for a tour. Get a garment made out of live mosquitoes. See thumb sized trophy winners. Watch the gov't immunization truck.

I'm afraid I'm trying to recall this purely from memory as I haven't seen this in a very long time, but I recall once using a plant that is part of the citrus family. Aparantly mosquitos really don't like the smell of citrus (or whatever it's linked to), and it may help reduce the number of mosquitos bugging you.

Perhaps investing in mosquito screens on your windows is an idea. I also find that, in the hotter months, a fan not only keeps you cool but the wind will keep the pitifully light and weak mosquitos away from you, if you can deal with the steady drone of a fan.

I'm hesitant to reccomend the chemical repellents as they are generally not the healthiest of solutions, but as long as you only use it at night or sutch, that might be an option. or you could not give a flying fuck about any of that and use it all day. your choice.

I hope one of these solutions can help you out ;)

I usually get a lot of toothpicks and wait for mosquitoes to come at me. I catch them, crucify them, and leave them in the open for all other mosquitoes to see. They get the message quickly.

Or if I'm feeling lazy I'll use repellant. So you should just do it too. Doesn't require too much thought or action on your part.

Does that work better than impaling them and leaving them in a field like Vlad the Impaler?
I never thought of Mr. Tepes' technique. Probably would be better, it certainly is more gruesome. And I swear I seen a group of mosquitoes treating one of their crucified brethren like a saint...its probably nothing.

Cinnamon and rosemary have been shown to repel mosquitoes. Maybe keep some rosemary bushes around?

I have a feeling you're thinking of citronella, or lemon grass. Totally not part of the citrus family though, emphasis is on the "grass". It's also a chemical repellent.

DEET is the gold standard. It's also effective against ticks, which in Florida can transmit rickettsia.[footnote]http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa011699[/footnote] At least, it's the most effective one as yet tested. The long wear period is pretty crucial, too. If you aren't going to remember to refresh your repellent every 90 or 20 minutes, they become useless past the first application.

Regular old fashioned listerine (the orange kind, make sure it's regular) works also, put some in a spray bottle and keep it on you to spritz. Tried and true from the Canadian city that boasts the mosquito as our unofficial bird. Usually I spray in on the deck, but your face may work if it doesn't sting too much.

I usually melt down half a bar of soap in a pot of water. They cant seem to keep from drowning themselves along with the flies and moths.
