Here Are All The 2017 Academy Award Winners

This year's Academy Awards features a bit of a snafu with the coveted "best picture" award.

Oscar season has come and gone, and last night the best of the best were rewarded for their efforts. The 2017 Academy Awards were hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, and unfortunately featured a little bit of a snafu with the "best picture" award in the same vein as that embarressing Miss Universe mistake [http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/steve-harvey-miss-universe-mistake_us_568beca4e4b06fa68883a175] the other year. Originally awarded to La La Land, the best picture actually went to Moonlight. You can see the mistake playing out in the video to the right, and check below for all of the other winners.

I'm a ginormous Ghibli fan and even I don't think The Wind Rises was that good. Especially not the dub. Jason Gordon-Levitt? Really? He seemed really into it.

But as much as much of a Ghibli fan as I am, the real travesty is the fact that Your Name got snubbed pretty much everywhere and didn't even win one of the lesser Annie awards makes the west completely non-credible when it comes to judging animation. Western awards show people gushing like maniacs over The Tale of the Princess Kaguya while not yet giving consideration to even one non-Ghibli anime movie is nauseating to me. Kaguya was the only non-Miyazaki anime film ever recognized by the Academy, and that was only because some of them heard it was done with charcoal pencil.

Theoretically Your Name could still get honored by the Academy and others next year (as it hasn't come out in the US yet), but it's still a pretty bad state.

You really hate Frozen that much? I don't want to derail too much I guess, but while I thoroughly enjoyed The Wind Rises, it had a lot of problems thematically and conceptually. I personally loved Frozen but even if I didn't, it's hard to deny it does what it tries to do extremely well.

I find it odd that people who disapprove of the "academy" make so much drama about the selections every year. Awards are for show. They don't mean anything. In regards to animation, I doubt Takahata cared that his beautiful Tale of Princess Kaguya was beaten by the shallow, generic, predictable Big Hero 6. Why should I?

I'm sure they care about the money that would inevitably come from the free, extremely positive, advertising. Other than that, ya, I agree. As someone else pointed out, the academy doesn't even watch all of the movies.

The only thing I found kind of interesting this year (besides the blunder) is that Lala Land didn't win best picture. Hollywood loves to jerk itself off and that seemed like a pretty good opportunity.

Stop. If you didn't think Frozen deserved Best Animated Feature, that is your opinion, however, the movie was extremely well done to the point that it is going on four years now and the movie is STILL talked about. It deserved the award. It was a significant return to form for Disney.

Anyway, as for these awards... I don't know. The last two Best Pictures I feel like will be forgotten to time compared to the other movies they were running against. Like, how did Spotlight win last year when The Revenant was clearly the hot item and the popular Academy choice for some significant awards? Makes no real sense to me. Same can be said for Moonlight. A fantastic movie, but it really got steam-rolled all night by La La Land which was, again, the hot movie going in and the winner of most of the awards for the night. I feel like both of these will be the Gandhi and Crash of this generation.

In my defense, my hatred for musicals is showing through here. One of the fastest ways to lose my interest is to spend the first 15 minutes of the film singing.

There's something to be said for doing something well, but Frozen's formula is still mind-numbingly simple, and I can't sit through the whole thing without burying my face in my palms at least once.

To each their own, I suppose.
