..To be perfectly honest, all I read was "Here's a picture of Catwoman fondling her own boobs".. and completely missed the "breast cancer awareness" portion until I actually read the OP. I'm a terrible person, I know.

I dislike your obviously misleading title, sir A good cause, no doubt.

...

thogh im not gonna lie, i saw the title and thought this was a really shallow attmept to get views. then i saw it was in the latest content section. XD
Well, uh, there's a different procedure for prostate cancer checkups, but I doubt that's ever getting depicted in a magazine ad.

Mmmmm... She-Hulk... What? I like 'em green, muscular and 2m tall! Okay, I'll stop now.

In all seriousness though as someone else might already have mentioned, even Marvel and DC's lawyers might think twice before bringing down the hammer of litgation on a breast cancer awareness program in Africa. Especially since they're not profiting off the images.

People tend to forget that Marvel and DC team up all the time, I mean there have been crazy numbers of crossovers between the two companies, even seeing the two of them collaberate for that whole "Amalgam Universe" thing.

I think the perceived animosity between the two is just for show, and have frequently suspected a lot of their throw downs over the years have been about as genuine as most rappers and hip hop performers threatening to cap each other publically for crime-related reasons. :)

If they cross over characters, why wouldn't they both agree to support a Breast Cancer pitch?
I mentioned nothing about Marvel and DC's relationship with each other. My post referred to their reaction to this campaign as owners of the characters.

Its a bit wrong, saying that catwoman is 'fondling her own boobs (for a good cause)' when she's actually giving herself a breast exam...the difference could not be any further.

For instance, imagine giving yourself a testicular exam, then have someone accuse you of groping yourself seductively. Would you jump to your own defense? Of course you would. 'I'm checking myself for cancer' you'd reply, 'it runs in my family'. 'looks like groping to me' they reply with a snigger.

Breast cancer should not be treated like that - a joke, or something titillating. Ask someone whose had a mastectomy if they find that tagline appropriate.

Maybe a tag-line of 'Catwoman gives self-breast examination' would have been more appropriate. I know (me included) the majority of the readers clicked on the link because of the sexual connotations the tag gave...but at least 'breast exam' would've been less mis-leading.

And no, i'm not butt-hurt about being spoiled for a brief glimpse of porn. This is the internet, there are places for that kinda thing. I just think an issue like breast cancer should be dealt with a little more maturely. As would anything for testicular cancer should be, before anybody says anything. Just because they are comic book characters and they have tits doesnt mean it's a joke - its a serious subject that should be dealt with seriously.

Ha!

Navgatr would be most pleased with this development. It places him one step closer to his Tomb Raider game idea.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that breast cancer awareness shouldn't be sexy?

IIRC, lung cancer tends to kill more women, but you can't sexualise those, so nevermind.
Yeah, I kind of think that.

I understand as necessity using their attention-getting abilities to raise awareness, but with this (and especially the legion of moronic Facebook status gimmicks), I think the whole end-justifies-the-means thing is reversed, and a lot of folks are pretending to raise awareness just so they can see (or talk about, or hear someone they've always had a thing for talk about) breasts.

I'd grab Shulkie's boobs too...oh don't look at me like that, you know you'd do it too if the opportunity presents itself.

Although I am perplexed as to why Power Girl wasn't in on it. Kryptonians must not get cancer. Or I'm just thinking too much about this.

Ok I didn't consider that due to how the hulk when he changes the transformation destroys his clothes save his pants.

Less than 100 comments and yet this article is sitting at the top of the Most Popular chart. Hmm. I wonder if the title has anything to do with that?

You know I remember hearing somewhere that breast self examination causes more harm then good. It causes women to recognize false positives, and panicking and wasting hospital resources. However, now that I think about it, it could be bullshit.

Most women still find breast lumps just by taking a shower, not by following a particular regimen.

Comic book characters have been used in Africa for stuff like this a lot. They're void of any tribal conflict, which helps immensely with acceptance across the board.

Plus an actual woman posing for this is liable to be persecuted by law for indecency. Don't know the exact laws in Mozambique of course but its a fair bet they have something like this.

Fun fact: An artist at DC kept drawing Power Girl with larger and larger boobs to see how far he could take it before the editor noticed.
Fyi: This bit of Trivia has been debunked.
I believe the artist's name was Wood (yep, wood... snigger) and while he'd have liked it to be true he had to admit the story was false.

PG's boobs have simply grown along with the rest of them over the years. Back in the day what they called stacked was just smaller then it is now.

It's funny that artists who draw PG usually have a better grasp of boob physics than those that draw other superheriones. Her costume tucks them in quite a bit as if she were wearing a sports bra. Something others could take an example of really.

*nods in agreement

They also (probably) picked her because she's been used to depict racism issues over the years. Being green, she doesn't suffer from the problem of touching to close to home as Storm would, though that one has had her run-ins with racists as well of course (before marrying a black guy and shipping off to Africa... which I always thought was a shame, why does the black girl always have to find a black guy? Walking Dead fails in this regard as well. Asians mix but black people don't. I'm shipping for Michonne and Rick but black guys keep popping up. To hell with that).

I could watch super women check for breast cancer all day :D

But if i did, my wife would kill me, burn my body, and throw the ashes into the sea to never be found for the insurance money.

More on topic:
Im glad breast cancer is getting the coverage it deserves.

Maybe next we can have AIDS awareness month! Unless there already is one that im unaware of.
It's getting much MORE than enough coverage lol.

and it's getting much more so because, well, they're breasts. No better way to get guys on the wagon to curing breast cancer than pictures of breasts, no?

It's a shame we can't do the same with prostate cancer.

I'm totally in favour of charities abusing copyrights to advance their cause too, this is a masterful move by them, really, what can a massive corporation do? 'We demand an end to this cancer awareness campaign as it makes it look like we care!'

Of course, nothing to stop them hiring hitmen to kill a few higher ups in the charity to balance things out without getting the media or lawyers involved... not that I'd suggest a massive corporation would do anything so underhanded and illegal out of spite and revenge of course.

(keeps an eye on Mozambique news)

Hmph, the picture of Anne Hathaway on the page is very misleading... and also makes this disappointing.

Still a good cause though, I think, I can't quite remember what the cause is. Other things are on my mind, you see.

Dude, you guys get sponsored to grow facial hair and the women actually have to run for miles to earn their sponsor money, you get it easy.

This seems like a good idea to me, and I doubt either company would mind, and actually they collaborate more often than you'd think.
