Heroes of the Storm Launch Brings New Hero, Cross-Game Goodies

Heroes of the Storm's launch event will get you various goodies across several Blizzard universe titles.

After being in alpha and beta for some time now, Blizzard's entry to the MOBA arena: officially released [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/heroes%20of%20the%20storm?os=heroes+of+the+storm]. To celebrate, a new hero has been added (Johanna, Crusader of Zakarum), as well as a plethora of in-game goodies - both for HoTS itself and several other Blizzard universe titles.

First up, anyone who logs in during the launch event will earn an exclusive in-game portrait. There will also be an incrementally increasing XP boost in the three weeks following launch, starting at 25% this week and ramping all the way up to 100% for the week of June 16. You'll also be able to purchase a 30-day stimpack for 50% during the first week.

As for in-game cosmetic goodies, having 100 wins in World of Warcraft [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/hearthstone] character will reward you with an Ironside dire wolf mount. You can also get a "Billie the Kid" mount for purchasing anything from the in-game shop using real money.

Similarly, reaching level 12 and 20 in Heroes of the Storm will grant you a Hearthstone card back and a World of Warcraft Grave Golem pet respectively.

For a bit more info on Johanna - she is "The Crusader" from Diablo III's Reaper of Souls [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/diablo%203%20reaper%20of%20souls?os=diablo+3+reaper+of+souls] expansion pack. Just like in D3, Johanna is a tank-type warrior hero with plenty of stuns and defensive buffs. Check out the video above to learn more.

So that's it! If you have yet to try out Heroes of the Storm, you can go ahead and download it for free via Blizzard's game launcher.

I really do love these cross-game events that Blizzard does. Makes a really nice gesture for people that play their games regularly. Other companies could learn from this example.

No love for StarCraft 2 or Diablo 3 players? Oh wait, you don't have to regularly dump money into those games.

And my biggest problem with all of this? Johanna's hairstyle.

Gods, I hate that half-shaved look. As soon as a skin gives her a full head of hair, I'm buying it.

So far I am a little sad there is nothing for the D3 player since that is the only other Blizz game I currently play other then HOTS.

That out the way I was super excited about Johanna as I was just thinking to myself the other day how I wish the Crusader was a hero in HOTS. Then I saw the 15,000 price and said eh I will wait on that purchase.

They always charge 15K gold on release. The price drops to 10K after 2 weeks usually :)

There's a skin with a full-coverage helmet. Does that count?
