Hey anyone remember Sora from Digimon? What was her deal with the helmet?

So I've be re-watching Digimon because I haven't seen it since it first aired years ago, and theres a female character named Sora. She's intelligent, cunning, well rounded character as well as the shipping pair for two of the male leads.

Here's my issue, and it's really silly, but she wears a helmet as a fashion statement.

Like... really, could you/would you take any girl seriously that wears a helmet while not engaging in a helmet activity like biking or skate boarding?

Wear helmets children, all the time... you never know when a skull graymon will cause you massive head trauma.

(It actually seems like a good idea to me to wear a helmet 24/7 in the digiworld)

It would look stupid in real life just like everything in anime, but within its own universe it works and looks fine, the mentality though I have no idea.

Remember, the kids where transported to the digital world from some kind of camping place. It would fit into those "helmet activities" I'd think.

Oh and she doesn't keep wearing it in the second season, she wears some kind of school outfit I think.

Never watched the show. Is that a helmet? I'd have assumed it was a knit cap.
It is a helmet. She actually uses it as a drum in one episode.

Here's what it looks like in real life

Would you take her seriously?
I'd take her more seriously then a girl in a helmet.

That may be true.... except that she was rocking it before they even entered the digital world.

But... no... cause they even return home to Japan at one point and she still wears the fucking thing around. I have to assume it's either for some sort of medical condition or cause she ain't playing with a full deck.

Oh, that's because it's an anime trope and just easier for the animators to always draw someone with the exact same outfit. Also has to do with merchandise and all those figures they sell and stuff. It's just a minor thing which explaining logically will provide you with nothing but headache.

This is why the escapist is going to shit. Honestly every topic is just looking for ghosts where none exist and where everyone's opinion is more important than the facts.

Look OP, the reason you draw characters like that and keep em that way is to ensure that all the animators are on the same page and that marketers are able to create products of characters to sell to children. It makes the process easier rather than constantly having to change the outfit of the character especially if your budgeting is extremely low to which first seasons of anime and cartoons usually have.
Dude, taking things a little to seriously much?

It still doesn't change my overall point: Wearing a helmet looks freaking stupid unless one is doing an activity that requires it for safety.

Yeah I know, but.... c'mon dude, who ever thought it was a good idea to put a helmet on her should be dragged out into the street and shot in front of their own mother. [/Hyperbole]

I reckon if she wasn't wearing that helmet she'd look very similar to Misty. And you know how much content Digimon stole from Pokemon so I guess the creators didn't want to push their luck. *trollface*

For some reason I want to say it was something to do with her mom. I think she wanted to rebel against here girly ways by looking as tomboyish as possible. I could be wrong.

It's actually inconsistent on whether is it a rigid helmet or a hat. They use it as a drum in one episode, but it others when she takes it off it becomes flat like a hat, and she wrings it with her hands.

If you want an explanation as to why she wears it, I have no idea. It probably has something to do with her tomboy attitude.

Maybe it's made out of that gel that gets hard when you apply high force on it, but becomes soft if you just lightly squeeze it.

I thought she was retarded too. Tye probably thought it was an easy fuck or something so that's why he must've been extra nice to her.

No, the Escapist is not going to shit. Even if it was, it would be because of people like you taking random, innocent shit too seriously.

OP: You want a reason? It's a late 90s/Early 2000s children's show. WAZZAM. Question answered.

Is that a fact? Shit! It must of been one of those "blink if you missed it" moments.... I seriously just finished Adventure and never saw that >.<

I am NOT re-watching 50 episodes just to find it though, the animation and music in this show really haven't aged well. I swear to God if I hear "Hey Digimon! Hey Digimon! Digital friends to the boys and girls" one more time I'm going to stab someone in the eye.

Well I was trying to really dance around it but.... Yeah at a certain point I just started to pretend that this was true. It just makes the whole TaixSoraxMatt love triangle more funny, like that storyline in arrested development.

Plus, like I know I've been joking about it, but it seriously started to bug the crap out of me during the final battle with Piedmon. The stakes are soooooo fucking high and everything is soooooo fucking serious by that point, visually her wearing the helmet annoyed the crap out of me.

Yeah you are right, I'm being too serious. But with all the crap going on these forums can ya blame me? Hasn't really been fun here to actually have a conversation about video games without having people jump on some bandwagon calling the games I've enjoyed that has crafted me into some sexist or racist monster.

So yeah sorry SaneAmongInsane if I've taken this topic a bit too serious.

Also, I think I will quote Moviebob "ANIME IS WEIRD!". Yeah it may look strange but you need someway to build some variation or note for younger audiences to tell which characters even if you think it is some stupid helmet. I remember watching Digimon and considering I've had a lot of experience watching anime and what kind of crap goes on up and down the ladder it just kinda fell right into place where I didn't bother about the chains of reality that we have in our own society and how ridiculous an actual person would look wearing a helmet. Just doesn't phase me. I mean hell, the weirdest thing I've actually seen in a long time was on this forum with a person actually using Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog dressed up like a Nazi Soldier.
Nah I really can't blame you. Place has been all Neo-Feminism and politics lately.... I just thought it be fun really to associate Sora with "That Kid In The Helmet" from the Clerks cartoon. XD

I'm actually the exact opposite... It's really a odd habit that, like okay, kids get sucked in an alternate dimension populated with monsters based upon our ever growing use of digital medium? Kay. That's plausible. Batman? That's plausible too. I can suspend my disbelief.

Then I come to something like Magic, or in this case a girl wearing a helmet for fashion, and it just seems like such utter bullshit to me... and it really shouldn't be because it's not that far of a stretch really from when I deem plausible but *shrug*

That's a helmet? I always thought that was a hat. Heck, from what I remember from the Digimon movie, Tai even said it was a hat. (Of course maybe the dubbers believed it was a hat. I don't know)

I think the bigger question would be, why the hell did she marry Matt?? Seriously, I always thought she and Tai had a thing going on, and at the end of the second season, she ends up with Matt. What the hell?

I know for a FACT it was a helmet in one episode, she beats it like a drum while she and Joe chants for Bakumon to lose his power.... but someone else just said it's inconsistent what it is.

No my friend the bigger question is how the hell did Matt go from being a rock star to A FUCKING ASTRONAUT! Out of no where, he's never even had aspirations of space travel...

Even more important to me was who the hell Kari ended up choosing to bang, TK or Davis. I was probably one of the 5 people in the world rooting for Davis.
