Hideo Kojima Vows Never To Retire

After more than twenty years in the industry, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has been given the Lifetime Achievement award at the GDC Awards, but Mr Kojima assures us that he has plenty more years left in him.

Mr Kojima is the ninth recipient of the award, and joined such luminaries as Shigeru Miyamoto, Will Wright and the late Gunpei Yokoi. As he accepted his award, Mr Kojima told the assembled crowd, "I have to say, even though I received this award, let me state that I will not retire. I will continue to create games as long as I live".

Kojima's career in the videogames began when he joined Konami's MSX division in 1986. After a few false starts, he wrote and directed the seminal Metal Gear, and the rest is, as they say, history. Since then, Kojima's name have become synonymous with the Metal Gear franchise, but as he closed the book on the series with Metal Gear Solid 4, we shall just have to wait and see what Mr Kojima will produce in the next twenty years.

Awesome
I love his games, with his incredible eye for detail and inside jokes. Let's all hope Snake doesn't end up going to the moon to fight Raiden.

The way he rides that duck is almost a bit scary though...

I was going to make a joke along the lines of "Lets see you stave off retirement when you're dead, Mr. Kojima!" but I see he's already addressed the whole post-mortem thing...

On topic, good for him. It's nice to see such dedication in the industry.

Until someone puts a pickaxe into his spinal chord...
Seriously, even ol' Hideo will start to have problems coming up with dialouge in the end. Oh wait, my mistake.

If you love doing what you do, there's no reason to retire, since thats what you'd be doing anyway. Good for him I say.

Dedicated man, I respect that.

I just hope that those next 20 years won't be years that the MGS franchise will be milked to death.....

But still, you gotta love Kojima especially for his dedication to his work.

Do you hear that? It sounds like more sequels!

Metal Gear Solid: Attack of More Metal Gears
Metal Gear Solid: Modern Gearfare
Metal Gear Solid: Advanced Gearfighter
Metal Gear Solid: CARNAGE! (SSBB)
Metal Gear Solid: Bad Gear-pany
Metal Gear Solid: Snake's battle with cardo problems
Metal Gear Solid: Get fit with Snake!
Metal Gear Adventure 2: Gear Battle 17 (Gear-ector's cut)
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Gears
Metal Gear Solid: No more Gear-os
Metal Gear Solid: Gearler 7
Gears of War 17

Okay, I'll stop now.

Wait, don't you guys speak Kojima? This means he will retire, as he's said he will after each game and then didn't. He speaks in opposites as far as this sort of thing goes :)

Nah, in all seriousness, you really have to respect the guy that can stay this devoted.

All jokes aside about him I really do respect him for staying this devoted to what he does and wish him the best.

People seem to forget that he also made Zone of the Enders, which was also a great game (The first, at least, I unfortunately never got to play the second one), and I would love to see more of that.

You should go right out and do that now, because the second game is amazing. It is, in my opinion, better than the first.

On topic, good to see this. I'm a big fan of the metal gear games.

I'll similarly remind you that Mr. Kojima remains probably the only producer to ever recieve massive backlash for changing too much
You're kidding, right? Pretty much anyone who's ever created anything that attracted a fandom has had to go through that.
