Jesus god... O.O

OT: At this point, Metal Gear is like Pro-Wrestling.
There are Divas going around just for the sole purpose of being eye candy while at the same time, huge hulking half naked men are grabbing each other.
For every Fetish Fuel Female, there is Homo-erotics for the girls :p

Well. That's, something. I guess you know what you're getting into with MGS5.

I do not enjoy skimpy outfits. The style just, doesn't mesh with me. Clothing can be an important way to express a character without words, a lack of clothing doesn't tell me much besides "Yup, we're going to masturbate to his". I mean, I suppose you can maybe hypothesize something about openness and accepting your own body, but come on. Who does that seriously?
Lots of people. In alot of philosophies hiding your body is a sign of shame where as being comfortable in your own skin is a sign of self acceptance. Why some equate covering a woman completely with womens liberation Ill never fully understand.

It doesn't matter how many butts or boobs they add to their characters, everyone's favorite Metal Gear Solid cosplay will still be this:

Thank you sir, for at least making me laugh out of all of this.

On topic, I guess it is nice for Kojima to admit he just wants to see sexy looking ladies, but it still troubles me. I think most people cosplay because they like whatever character/object they are cosplaying as. Some people might do it to be sexy, as I'd imagine some people would like to dress sexy. I don't think cosplayers really like others lusting after them though, or possibly like to be encouraged to dress sexy because someone else wants them to. So it feels a bit wrong for him to be asking it in my view.

Then again, if people want to do what he requested, I guess that's fine too if they are willing.

What's that saying again, oh Japan?

Can't wait for people to claim that it's "sexist" to the male or female gender because of the erotic nature of the characters in MGS5, then.

You only have to google cosplay to see plenty of people that aren't exactly trying to stop others lusting after them.

Kind of like this statement

While the revealing costumes are the ones to usually make the headlines, "erotic" has never been a defining requirement of cosplay.
While not a requirement it's still, at least from the perspective of one who's not part of the cosplaying community, portrayed that way

This is why I don't get why everyone tells me how mature and great MGS is. Any story with a bikini sniper is not one I'm going to take seriously.

It's designed to get teenage Japanese otakus excited and have them buy insanely overpriced figurines and other merchandise. Seriously, those things go for like $70 on the low end.

ARTISTIC INTEGRITY.
Out of all the issues with MGS storyline THIS situation is the reason why you don't get MGS as a video game? I mean Kojima isn't exactly the brightest apple for pulling these stunts but his audience is lacking equal sensibility.

All your statement does is prove that the stupidity of developer are sadly mirrored by the community from time to time.

On topic of the article: I find his motivations a bit distasteful but it is obvious it is targeted at the Japanese audience who's culture of sexuality is far different from our own.

heres a pretty good cosplay for quiet. So I wonder if shel be wearing a bikini while sniping? not sure how I would feel about that. outside the game I dont care he can make her as sexy as he wants. but I do expect a certain amount of pseudo realism from my characters in these games. Im not happy that I dont get to ever play as solid again so I hope hes not fucking it up. also I noticed in one trailer it already looks like shes wearing that bikini from behind can anyone confirm?'

nvm yeah in the extended cut its a bikini.:/ whatever....

Well at least gaming has someone to counterbalance all the social justice warriors screaming about sexism.
Or encourage more of them.

Unless...Was that Kojima's plan all along? BRILLIANT!

So he's designing characters with the hopes they will be cosplayed... what does that say about the people who eventually DO cosplay as those cosplayable characters? I thought the point of cosplay was to dress up as a character and generally the more difficult the costume or more recognizable the costume the "better" the cosplay?

If he's making characters that are designed to be cosplayed isn't that going to be a bad thing for the people who are cosplaying as them? Like, cosplay for dummies or baby's first cosplay?

It's difficult to explain. If everyone else is dressed up in cosplay of characters that aren't designed to be cosplayed and you are dressed as a character that is designed to be cosplayed doesn't that make your cosplay the "easy" (in more ways than one) option?

Uh... Kojima? What are you doing?

KOJIMA. STAHP.

I don't mind a little sexuality in my MGS. We had Meryl without her pants on in MGS1, naked Raiden in MGS2, EVA in a bikini in MGS3, and the entire B&B Unit in 4. So I guess it's nice that he likes to keep to tradition, but please, don't go overboard Kojima.

I also expect the obligatory torture and escape sequence.

Here's an idea Kojima, how about not objectifying your characters just to make money? m?

Man I generally have a lot of respect for the man but this is kinda gross. The internet exists, if people want to pornify these characters they will, why does the game itself need that kinda stuff? I have nothing against sex and sexuality in my games but to use it this way doesn't improve or add to this particular game, it detracts from it.

Not quite, there are two parts of cosplay, the technical crafting part where you dress someone as a character and the cosplay (or acting) which is to be the character.

And it has little to do about how difficult or easy a design is, that is just one of the several things to consider, and much more to do with how much love and dedication towards said character the ones doing the costume and the one playing it display.

OT: I really don't see why changing character designs during dev phase to make em way more erotic for practical reasons would be wrong... but golly this thread seems decidedly against it. And I think the average videogame user is more for it, so don't think such opinions matters much.

Oh, c'mon. Sex appeal has been in Metal Gear since Solid 1.

This is clearly the logical step forward.

MGS isn't what I'd call consistent in tone. It can go from a dry representation of war to Snake ogling the boss to a bombardment of philosophical Codec calls in a matter of minutes. Strangely enough, it works pretty well.

The themes behind the franchise are mature. But that doesn't mean Kojima doesn't have a little fun sometimes.

I don't get it either.

Have I mentioned that that character design idea is horrifyingly stupid? Especially since there doesn't seem to be any backstory to it. If there were (something like a holiday resort nearby blew up - and nearly all of her shirts with it - and the one she's supposed to wear right now is drying outside? ... That is improbable, however. There are no real holiday resorts in Afghanistan, except if you count the numerous army camps).
Well, it is probably hot as balls in Afghanistan...
