Hideo Kojima's Making MGS5 Characters More "Erotic" For Cosplay

As if I needed more evidence for why I avoid any games Kojima touches like the plague. He has the mind of a child and the "stories" of his games feel like the kind of thing a little boy would come up with while playing with his GI Joes. The atrocious pacing and characterization in his games reminds me of the mistakes that many first time DM's make in D&D.

It's like he turned 14 and then stopped maturing mentally. Yet society has seen fit to give him multi-million dollar franchises out of this crap.

Also, please stop defending him on the grounds that "Anita Sarkesian hates him, so he must be ok." Both Kojima and Sarkesian are repulsive human beings and I refuse to give either of them money.

Well... the guy has usually made really great games, characters, and storylines, so I'll let him do as he pleases with character design.

However, I'll just share my two cents on just reading the headline:

"wut"

Something like DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball but with Snake sneaking around the place in a box armed only with his binoculars? One day...one day...
Yes! You'll play as Snake. It actually plays more like Pokemon snap, except you can't let the girls catch you taking photos.
If they spot you it will be MGS like stealth mechanics and you'll have to hide until the alert meter dies down. At the end of the round, Otacon evaluates your photos like Prof. Oka in snap.

If I we were Japanese game devs we just would have gotten a raise.
That is possibly the most hilarious game design of all time. It makes Leisure Suit Larry look like a puritan bible.

No no, yeah this is good. Because really if there's one thing the video game industry is lacking, it's overly sexualized female characters...

Here's an idea Kojima, how about not objectifying your characters just to make money? m?
You're aware that Raiden only exists because Kojima wanted Metal Gear to appeal to female audiences right? This is not a new concept, this is 'normal' (i.e. what's normal for him) Kojima.

OT: I really don't see why changing character designs during dev phase to make em way more erotic for practical reasons would be wrong... but golly this thread seems decidedly against it. And I think the average videogame user is more for it, so don't think such opinions matters much.
Define "practical"?

Because the way a character dresses should be practical to their role. Bikini snipers are, for example, the opposite of "practical" unless they're trying to assassinate someone at a day spa or something.

The practical reason is to sell more figures, I get it, but at the same time it's just pandering that's even been said it's pandering. I admire the guy for being at least blunt about it and not beating around the bush as to his intentions... but that doesn't make those intentions noble.

But I haven't bought any Metal Gear games other than the original and Snake Eater, from what I understand I have made the right choice.

I don't even know. I just don't.

Although we should mention he hasn't mentioned how this will affect Snake's character model. And this IS the one referred to as "Naked Snake", after all.

Um, whut? So basically he designed sexualized characters and now he's literally begging women to dress as them? That's a little... creepy. "Something like this for example." Really? I've never played a Metal Gear game before, and I was considering picking up the new one, but now? I don't know. All I can think of is Kojima fapping off to cosplay pictures. Come on man, have a little self respect.

BTW Mr Kojima's command of the English language isn't the best. So ya, what he "says" might not correlate to what he meant.

Considering that Jessica Nigri's Juliet cosplay got her kicked out of several conventions, I doubt that's a good idea. I mean she just wore a pink jumpsuit with a lowered zipper and a rather normal cheerleader dress and that has already caused an outrage.
Did she seriously get kicked out over THAT specific cosplay? I'm seen some shit man. Shit faaaaaaar worse than that. The pink jumpsuit doesn't even qualify in my top 100 of risque cosplays.

There was a cosplay at Otakon that a group of women was doing. They went as "Nude SIMS." They wore nothing but skin colored underwear and had cardboard over their fronts and backs that had the mosaic pattern. Looking at them from the side from 50 feet away, your eyes showed you naked women.
Yep.

I know at PAX, she first cosplayed in the cheerleader dress. The next day the expo guys didn't like the jumpsuit and suddenly the cheerleader dress was too sexy as well. They gave her the choice to either wear a sweatshirt for the rest of the expo or gtfo.
I remember PAX stating a 0 tolerence on booth babes and such. I think they're extending it to "babes" in general.

I mean, I understand what they're going for I just don't agree with what they're doing. Seems a bit hypocritical of the company famous for the whole "Dickwolves" debacle.

I. Uhm. He, what?

Well. That's, something. I guess you know what you're getting into with MGS5.

I do not enjoy skimpy outfits. The style just, doesn't mesh with me. Clothing can be an important way to express a character without words, a lack of clothing doesn't tell me much besides "Yup, we're going to masturbate to his". I mean, I suppose you can maybe hypothesize something about openness and accepting your own body, but come on. Who does that seriously?
Lots of people. In alot of philosophies hiding your body is a sign of shame where as being comfortable in your own skin is a sign of self acceptance. Why some equate covering a woman completely with womens liberation Ill never fully understand.
Hm. Well, I just think it looks better. I don't really find the naked bodies of men or women particularly attractive. Personal preference really...

Still love the stupid genius, but someone needs to teach him about subtly.... xD And get him a few more story editors!

I'll get this game Kojima, but I'll stick with getting Rex figurine. :p

This is what i meant by practical. And no they are not noble, but at the same time, for me, they are not ignoble. IMO there's nothing noble or ignoble in general on having highly objectified men and women in videogames or in QQing endlessly about it; the second however bothers me because it's discourse seems a bit more convoluted and a lot less open.

In this case in particular I really don't see how anyone can pretend it hurts the game when we really haven't even seen it.

How can people get mad at him for objectifying women? He had Raiden running around naked for crying out loud. Is this wrong because she happens to be a female character?

Gotta hand it to him, at least not giving a fuck is sort of respectable. Especially since everybody afraid to piss off anybody.

You speak of avoiding his games like the plague, but then you know about the pacing and characterization of his games... Something doesn't seem quite right here. And yet still, you say you avoid his games but you've read and commented on a story about his games (quite negatively in fact) yet for the life of me I can't figure out why you would have any interest in something you avoid due to poor quality. Also for someone who is not a fan of the series, why do you feel others are interested in your opinion of the game? you said yourself you do not play them so going off what you wrote you have no validity in making claims about their quality of something you've avoided.

Sure go off on the sexualization in gaming, or other poster's comments, but as a whole your post does not make sense.

I'll be honest, I'm actually kind of proud of it.
